I always chuckle when someone just says that name, seriously what's so ''luxury'' about it?
Vinyl flooring has been the cheapest junk you can get for god knows how long.
Now someone makes it in smaller/easier to lay format and calls it "'luxury'' and everyone spends insane amounts of $ on it.

clever Marketing trick which has created a completely new market where people are happy to have plastic nasty vinyl on their floor and be proud of it?
& Yes I'm aware that it's good in places with loads of traffic (shops) because it's rather durable, but since when did it become a Luxury Product?

thicker backing and a stronger face. that's about it. but it's something.

some people (me excluded) prefer it for thinks like bathrooms, especially over concrete as it tends to be warmer and provide a cushioned feel.

fashion, it swings from one side to the other and our's is not to reason why. :)

amitco is another matter, it's a bugger to lay unless your floor is perfect I know that much. :)

I'd be happy to have amtico flooring in places
That's vinyl

Agreed.
We have Karndean in the ensuite. Both are damn near indestructible :D

If I were to go that way, I would do it properly and put down proper linoleum that is completely natural product, hypo allergenic, self sterilising, self healing, lasts around a century doesn't move once down and can be cut to to engineering tolerances and the most amazing patterns. And it's a good Scottish product

We had Amtico and Karndean flooring in the Ensuites/ Kitchen and Hall of the last house.

Maybe not luxury as such but looks prety decent when laid and very practical in high traffic areas. I laid the stuff in the hall myself it, it was about 20 sqm and thought it would be easy enough. I laid cherry planks of the stuff around the perimeter and then laid the rest diagonally. There's definately a knack to working with it, the subfloor needs to be perfect otherwise any discrepancies will show through. The adhesive used is latex based - I was caked in the stuff - hands and arms were devoid of hair trying to get the glue off. Easy to lay - I dont think so, even cutting the stuff is not easy; its as tough as old boots.

After the hall experience I got the kitchen and ensuites installed by a guy who fitted the stuff for a living.

I wouldn't call it cheap junk, both Amtico and Karndean are good quality products.
I could have laid hardwood flooring in the hall but decided it wouldn't be worth it; It would have been scratched and in need of re-finishing within a year. We had the Amtico flooring in the hall for over 10 years and it still looked good when we moved out.

I would have it again in the new house.

Do you like anything, your hobby seems to be randomly posting up about stuff you don't like or consider rubbish?

Beat me to it, nothing good to say about anything!

Sod the vinyl floors, how about executive coaches? Would love someone to show me an executive who is happy to travel on a coach with the plebs!
