Yes folks my new lathe arrived today, after only ordering it on Wednesday. :D :D
After lots of thought on which lathe to upgrade to,and after some good recommendations, and advice from forum members,i decided to go for the Hegner HDB 200XL,with a 1hp motor, and after seeing it now for the first time in the flesh,so to speak,it looks a very well made machine, everything just glides and locks in place effortlessly.
It came very well packed i'm glad to say.

Now that my Perform lathe had been sold i had to fill this space again.

This is how the lathe came packed.Very well packed.

Everything was very securely strapped down inside.

The outer box just lifted from the wooden pallet.

Nicely boted down onto the pallet.
I will use these nuts and bolts to secure the lathe in it's new home :D

The motor and control box were in seperate boxes though they are wired together.

And here is the new lathe in situ withe motor fitted, just 4 bolts, and the control box in place.
I had to change the height of the bench as this lathe is about 6" higher than what the Perform was,but still be able to get the car in

I will even use the pallet as a duckboard to stand on.This helped as it is higher than my previous db,so the bench top could still stay slightly higher.

So there it is.Slightly rushed with the piccys, but i think you will get the gist of whats what.
Can't wait to have a go on it now. :D Will give a report on it's first turning.

Congratulations

A great lathe and a great buy. :D

Now lets see you get it dirty.

Although it is a rather nice piece of kit I confess to being more envious of your workshop than the lathe. Congratulations, now let's see what you can do on it.

Hi Paul

Congratulations on the new lathe :D

I noticed that you've wall mounted the control box. Does it have a remote magnetic back control as well because if not you may find it's a bit too far away if you need to stop the lathe quickly. You could consider wiring in a foot switch or mounting the control box on a moveable stand as they did with the early Poolewood lathes. Just a thought :-k

Thanks for the comments everyone.
Haven't had chance yet to use the lathe.
Still not sure if it will stay where it is,i might move it to one of the side walls which will give me more room, and might put it on a stand.
Yes Mark the switch is a concern where it is now but hope to sort something out soon. There is no magnet on the back of the control box.

Lucky you.
I have to admit that my first thought was the same as Marks - with the control box where it is you will have to reach over any spinning work to stop the lathe. If you could find some way to get it moveable it would be much safer. Perhaps it could just be mounted under the bench

Paul, do you find those shelf supports substantial enough?
Nick this is what i do when i'm turning.

I put 2 pieces of 3"x2" for front support. The bench is solid without them but even more so when they are fitted.
The brackets are screwed to the timber uprights behind the boards using coach screws.
The legs are then removed so we can still get the car in the garage.
But as i've said earlier the lathe might be moved to the side wall on the left and i will make a free standing bench for it,giving me more room.

Yes Duncan this is a concern and will hope to sort it out shortly.
It can't go under as the car goes in the garage every night and the front of it just fits under the bench.Even tighter now i've had to lower the bench.

Super lathe - wish I had one  .
Question about keeping it and the car in the garage. Do you get any rust problems, bringing a wet car in to the same space? My workshop adjoins the garage, with no door in between, and I'm wondering how urgent it is to get the doors in place :?:

Thanks Dick :D
If your referring to rust on the tools ,machines etc the answer is no.
I haven't noticed any significant amounts of rust.
Though i do put all my tools away at night,in dreawers etc,and keep all the cast iron etc waxed regularly.
HTH.
