Is there any worse than toothache? At the moment I don't think so. It started a week ago last Sunday. Went to see my nice dentist, Claudia who is from Brazil (I just lay back and think of Samba dancers :D ), and she put me on antibiotics to kill off an infection. She reckons my teeth are quite good - but I'll probably have to have my gums removed

Anyway, after several nights of no sleep, I went for my next appointment on Monday only to find that she had gone off sick. Going again tomorrow when I hope she will remove the tooth. Haven't done anything in the workshop now for over a week, so I'll be glad to get back in there when this pain's stopped.......

Cheers

Paul (who is feeling very sorry for himself  )

Oh dear :( . There may be some pains that are worse than tooth ache, but it's hard to imagine them. Let's hope your tooth gets sorted tomorrow.

In the meantime, would you like me to find you some Samba videos?

Gill

Well you are lucky in the respect that you have a Dentist! I have not and can't seem to get one for love nor money. I do have one I use but she isn't much use in the event of toothache as she is in China! Luckily for me most of my top set are false but I have a few ropey ones in the bottom and even more luckily no pain with any of them. My own Dentist retired a couple of years ago, pity as he was really good too. :(

as a frequent sufferer from toothache I used to think there was no worse pain on the planet but after herniating 2 discs in my lower back I can reliably state that there is far worse.

Hope you get it sorted

a wee tip I take ibuprofen and paracetamol together (wifes a nurse) doesnt stop the pain but its much better than just one or t'other

on a different tack my folks live in Rio and the locals are mostly dirt poor but all have good teeth some of the richest people in Brasil are dentists

Cheers
Tom

It's hard to find a proper Samba video on YouTube which isn't either indecent or ballroom! Talk about one extreme or another  .

Clove oil and bon jella or something like that , will give you a few hours of no pain . Just a little clove oil mind and wash your hands BEFORE you go for a wee

Whisky  A whole bottle should get rid of the pain, but if it doesn't, just get your wife to smack you in the face with the empty bottle... Might knock out the offending tooth as well as getting you some sleep

Sounds the best idea so far

Thanks for all your suggestions. Having tried all the usual pain killers, I'm finding that rinsing out my mouth very frequently with plain water of the right temperature is proving the most effective. Although it means spending most of the day with my head over the sink

Cheers

I can commiserate as I was at the dentist today - I have just finished a second course of antibiotics for an abscess under a crown that started about 2 weeks ago. After the first course of antibiotics the dentist added metronidazole (flagyl) which is usually used for amoebic dysentery. Seemed to do the trick. One warning though - if you take metronidazole or anything similar don't also try drinking a bottle of whiskey or anything alcoholic. The two do not go well together.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

The next time we meet up we'll have something other than woodworking to chat about :) What's dentistry like in Togo? Are their instruments better than their woodworking tools

Hope yours is sorted soon as well, Steve.

Cheers

Try sea salt in your rinse, Maldon I think I used, anyway several rinses per beaker. About a heaped teaspoon.

Jeff.

Hi Paul

I hope that is is corrected soon, you have my sympathy.

I am now in week five of antibiotics for infections in both of my ears. I've just moved onto Hydrocortisone and I'm hoping this will do the job.

All the best,
Neil, who is also feeling very sorry for himself.

I'll see your Toothache and raise it with 5yrs of severe back pain

;)

Get well soon mate

The worst bit is when the dentist then has to remove the tooth. I had an infection under a crown and my face swelled up like a balloon. The antibiotics brought it under control but the tooth had to go. It was only when I got to the dentist's office that she cheerfully told me that local anasthetic sometimes was not effective in swollen tissue. She put three syringes of stuff in my gum, but eventually had to twist the tooth out with me feeling everything - brought tears to my eyes I can tell you

The worst thing about toothache is there is nothing that makes it feel better. At least sometimes with backache if you lay still and don't move in a particular position the pain eases

Cheerfull subject for a wednesday morning!!

Hope you get it sorted soon Paul

Toothache is just awful - at the millenium new year's eve party I just sat there in agony. had a root canal with the emergency dentist at 10.00am 1st Jan 2000 (easy to remmebr that treatment :) )

Yes. Piles.

I've a prolapsed disc round about lumber 5, and even when it's on swan song, it is nothing compared to the near-black-out intensity and duration of those damned soggy veins.

Many years ago I lived in a place where a rifle under the bed was good insurance. SWMBO hid it away one night after I had been suffering for a few days with a strain of Malaria that gave me a headache worse than death - she thought I was ready to choose the latter..
