Now this may well sound daft - to my understanding things have to be sold in metric measures (although imperial can be stated along side) but the prime measure has to be metric.

Sat in Subway having a bite to eat and glanced up at the poster in the window - how is it that they can sell something advertised only as a 6" something or a foot long something?

American franchise?

It is - but I was under the impression that the EU (or whatever) law it was didn't give any exemption to American franchises.

Suppose I might fire an email off to trading standards when I'm bored at some point in the future.

While you at it can you complain about McDonalds - it should be a One hundredandthirteenpointthreenineeightzeroninethreegram-er.

I thought the law had changed :? There was that stupid case some time ago where Trading Standards prosecuted a greengrocer for selling his stuff in imperial measure but I thought the law was subsequently changed and that it's now OK to use imperial measures.

Hope so - I don't do metric

Cheers

Yeah but they're not selling a weight or measure are they, it's a product name, like a Big Mac, it's a footlong.

I think Paul is right though, the law was relaxed I believe after wasting money prosecuting someone.

Wasn't aware the law had been relaxed - I did feel that the prosecution of the greengrocer was a case of the been counters going too far!

How is selling a 6" sandwich not involving a measure? It blatantly says 6" - be interesting to see if it is actually 6"? However - I'll file that menatlly for when I'm p1ss bored. as opposed to actually bored.

do you mean it was the bean counters :? or the greenbean counters that prosecuted the greengrocer :?:

Oh, thanks goodness for that, I can still measure in Imperial then? Could they arrest me for asking for 8X4 sheets at the timber merchants too?
