Windows ME was around in 2001 and I used to run Microsoft Train Simulation, not for running locos but to build track locations and create my own running stock.

The next Microsoft windows version would not operate their train simulation and versions offered by suppliers later do not offer any play as mentioned above.

Is it possible that an IT man could remake a ME version again today from parts and a ME installation disk?

Yes it's possible but you'd want to make sure it's kept offline as it will be horribly insecure. Is there not a more recent version of Train Simulation you could use, or is there something special about that older version?

If you could buy an ME disk on eBay with a licence key, you could download vmWare (free) and run it as a virtual computer on your existing computer.

I would imagine there is a good chance that it will also work on XP? If so that would much better option than ME and would also run as a virtual install.

Yes the modern versions are geared to selling you rolling stock without facilities for constructing your own stock and allowing upload to their program etc..

I'll have a go thanks re me disk..

It would not install on XP previously when attempted .

Would you not consider 'Trainz' as an alternative. You can make rolling stock, layouts and all sorts of goodies are available for download. ??

take care

Just found a pristine hologrammed CD with Windows ME. Came with the first PC that I bought.

Yours free if you want it. PM or email me your address.

I used to run MS Train Sim on XP very successfully. I will see if I can find out how I did it.

What's wrong with the more recent train sims?

However if you've got an old laptop or similar it'd work fine. Just don't connect it to the internet ever!

Or as suggested, a VM on your PC would work fine as well.

Morfa, all the later versions I have seen are geared to supplying structures and running stock etc (and at a cost) whereas MSTS had a section where personal creations could be created and a personal layout was possible and not a train set.
