I have to be honest, I signed up more on behalf of my husband who is better with tools than technology. But I've been reading him posts that might be of interest and can see you have such a great community here so I thought it was time to sign up. By profession, he spends most of his days sharpening and restoring hand saws and vintage tools for clients, but runs a woodworking group on Fridays for the local community. And I do my best to support him, with ambitions to get a chance to make something on his lathe.
Nice to meet you all,
Rebecca

P.s. here is one of his latest inventions, a saw filing guide he made.

Hi Rebecca, welcome to the mad house. There are so many things you can or ge hubby to make.
Have a look at thread
Post a photo of the last thing you turned
I have just turned a verity of bowls that were filled with sweets/ nuts and are Christmas gifts
Last night I finished a selection of Christmas trees
So welcome, just wind hubby up, set the challange, hand him a mug of tea/coffee and let go…..
just watch out for the saw dust

Lady I know decided that she wanted a go on her husbands lathe, so she did, scared herself witless and the husband pulled the chisel from out of the shed wall when he got home! It just missed her as it flew over her shoulder!
So do please take care Rebecca. And welcome.

Welcome to both of you to UKW. Lots of "on topic" as well as off topic discussions happening here... so choose wisely - *and keep calm 😎.

As mentioned earlier... get to YouTube for tons of videos on the many ways to get going in woodworking, be it on using a lathe or making stuff with power or hand tools... lots to inspire.

With his (your 😎) lathe... probably best to try to find someone local that could give hands on guidance or book a lesson or 3 before going solo - guess it depends where you are located. With hubby involved with sharpening sawa etc., then you (and he) have probably got access to a number of people only to willing to give the guidance. Enjoy 👍😊

Oh dear! Luckily my hubby is used to teaching others how to use it - I'm always looking after the kids while he teaches 🥴

Greetings.

To both of you.

What's stopping you from getting started on "his" lathe (what's his is also yours, right?).
Nothing more than my own idea that it is his hobby/work, and I haven't had a strong enough drive to try more than once! But lately I've seen such lovely work done on the lathe that I want to try. Soon.
