Alan,

I recently bought a pair of Sennheiser in-ear headphones.

I am very impressed with them I find them a lot more comfortable than the headband type, which give me a headache after a while.

For £17 odd, the sound quality is (to my inexpert ears) very good - about the best I have experienced from a set of 'phones.

They have an added benefit of blocking out most of the ambient noise as well - just don't try eating anything crunch while wearing them!!!!

Mine came from Amazon - see here: -

Hi, mr
Sound in a big hall with lots of people or an outside venue has nothing to do with listening to music at home, totally different disciplines although in the same field. A GP wouldn’t do heart surgery.

the best around at the moment are Shure. I have the EB4 which retail around £200, but you can get them for £150ish on the bay

the EB5 are meant to be better, but I have not tried them.

I have owned a lot of headphones over the years, mostly Sennheisser and the Shure sound is much better - wearing the EB4 as I type this in fact :D

... and sound in a studio listened to with monitor headphones quite similar in a way.

Thanks to everyone for the various replies.

It is obviously not going to be as easy as I thought. Perhaps more than ever I need to try the various options, but that of course is not easy, and anyway sound is such a personal thing.

I am reasonably familiar with Sennheiser stuff through the mikes we use, but haven't looked at their headphones. I also know my father swore by Shure stuff, (its amazing how parental influences are hard to overcome although I am now well in to my 50'S!), didn't know they were still around.

Will do a bit more research then try and make an informed purchase!

Thanks again, your advice regarding my query about kitchen knives sometime ago was acted on and I now have a wonderful chefs knife, though the repayments will go on for some time yet
