Never seen or heard of this type vice before, but it is amazing and the jaws mechanism is very clever.

Thread revival.

Although a number of ad-hoc and rather Heath-Robinson means of holding irregular spoons, bowls and other green wood treen can be cooked up using the various bench-holding thingies I have, none seem as versatile or easy to use as one of these fractal vises may be, especially if it was mounted on a turntable enabling quick turn & lock to a new orientation of the workpiece held for gouging, knifing or rasping at.

Has anyone acquired one of the 3D-printed items that seem to be around, typically made of some sort of tough plastic and sold for between £170 - £300 (more if you fancy a carbon-fibre-added item)? Although a tough plastic would probably be better than a metal item, as seen in the above references, I'm wary of 3D-printed things as who knows how well they've been designed and printed. Will they go floppy? Will they distort too much in use (i.e. in the frame rather than in the jaws)?

Any users out there?
