Hello. While I'm saving up for my 1st lathe. I've not decided which yet. I've got 2 sat in baskets. 😁.
Anyway. Fella at work was clearing some space and he's give me some branches. Not sure what kind of tree it was. They might not be any use . But I figured , when I finally make my lathe decision, it's free practice wood.
Question are if any one can advise. How the best way to store it. Will it be ok piled up in corner of my garage. Is it better to let it dry. What problems arise from using it before it's dry.
Thanks.

If you haven't got a lathe yet seal the ends, PVA, old paint, whatever you have. Stacked with a bit of space for air to get around is good.
If you want to use it green take a look at things @Stigmorgan has made in the 'last thing you turned' thread

Looks like Holly, nice wood to turn, hard to keep white, it tends to turn grey as it dries, I've been told that you can increase the chances of it staying white by storing it vertically but the lengths you have there are pretty short so won't make much difference, all wood is good, you just need to be sensible about how you use it.
As @Tris says, seal with whatever you have, I've tried paint but found it tends to peel off, as does wax, PVA has given me the best results, especially if I come back the next day and put a 2nd coat on.
Store in your garage, allow air flow around them, at those sizes I'd prob suggest using them to practice making bud vases or lidded boxes.
