HDPE inside computer monitors.

Well, I've stripped a few down now and I'm over the moon.
This one is a tad over 6mm but still very useable.
They are all clear with a slight pattern but for nothing as apposed to £20/30 quid a sheet it's a find and a half.

A multitude of things but in my case, palm router base plates.

You're talking about the clear acrylic / perspex sheet used for backlighting the LCD panel ?
Good thickness and optically it will be great, but my guess is that will snap / shatter under impact.
Polycarbonate is very much tougher, though a little softer, and would be my choice for an extended router baseplate. But hey, if you are getting these for free, well done and let us know how they work out

If it's HDPE it is very resilient milk containers are made with it .I use it to mix resin and as a sheild when glueing up. Spent a long time installing extract ductwork made of polypropylene PVC and HDPE all of which can be welded with hot air. Normal glues don't stick to it.

I have a sheet that came from a TV. Pretty sure it's acrylic. HDPE isn't clear.
FYI it acts as a light-pipe to evenly distribute the backlight over the screen. That pattern is a very small version of prismatic glass.

Would be great if the stuff isn't brittle, could be used for machine guards if so,
as I've been looking for lexan for a long time.

the patterning is there so that the sheet acts as a Fresnel lens for the backlight (which actually comes in from the thin edge of the screen) that makes the screen work. Rather than wreck the lensing and light unit why not use them to make near perfect broadspectrum daylight light boxes for you workshop. This video shows you how. pretty interesting channel
