Gall stones

Had a scan today and I have some, looks like I will have to have my gallbladder removed, just like my sisters did, its not as bad as some medical conditions people on here have.

Its not a nice thing to pass a gall stone!

They showed me the scan but wouldn't let me take a picture!

I had the same a few years back, was in absolute agony at times and it took several weeks and visits to the doctor who was useless, and in the end self diagnosis of my skin turning yellow with jaundice, before I got sent for ultrasound and the operator said something like it looked really badly inflamed and must have been in a lot of pain !

Had a keyhole op after that and been fine since, just the three little incisions to show for it.

Been there done that. A&E four times, morphine, X-rays, blood tests, ultrasound then finally after turning yellow I had an MRI and then a MRCP before having my Gall bladder removed. It was inflamed and I'd been passing gall stones. Very, very painful, glad it's out!

Back in April I was in a hospital ward with 3 gents suffering from Gall Bladder infections - despite being on self dosed morphine drips they were in absolute agony - some for over a week until is was safe for them to be operated on!

Not gall stones but I had a tiny kidney stone - only 3mm - a few couple of months ago and it was the worst pain I've ever known. Apparently I have another one biding its time...

November 3rd they have just informed me is the day for my operation, its my sons birthday!

Had mine done July last year. Although the pain in side, back and between shoulders has gone, i still get the occasional nagging ache in my side. Mentioned this to the doc and she said that not all people will be left totally pain free....

And, since having it done i find i can no longer eat a full 3 course meal, and sometimes even just a main is difficult, as it makes me feel totally bloated.

I had 4 little incision cuts, the most painful was the belly button one :shock:

But hey.... feel much better now than i did.

Good to hear you're not having to wait too long for the op.
The waiting lists locally here are pretty dreadful. I ended up in resus with complications whilst waiting(should have been months) for my op.

Recovery is fairly quick if there's no difficulties. Since my operation I've found at least seven other people I know have had the op. Generally there's very few side effects and problems like NikNak's are fortunately quite rare.

You should be. The sooner it's out the less time you have to develop serious complications. I can assure you that Septicaemia is not fun.
