Well after years of getting chucked around in a transit van and me falling over with it drunk central heating has made the neck of my double bass come away from the body . The gap or crack is around 2mm but i have detuned it to stop it getting worse .
I may have the terminology wrong here but i think its the tail stock has come away from the nut and body .
Any ideas ?

I believe the necks on double bass' are set necks - meaning its a dovetail sort of joint.

A picture would be very helpful in determining how bad the problem is. Some problems might have a simple solution, others might require complete dis-assembly, repair and refinish.

I just have to clean the veneer off and put a few bits on ( not sure what they are called).
