I need to fit this new arbor to my table saw but not sure quite how to proceed.

I have two questions.

As you can see in the picture, the new arbor comes with the lh bearing already fitted. So how do I get the old arbor out of the arbor assembly and fit the new one? It looks as if the arbor assembly is cast iron and there is another bearing that sits on the right hand side but is shown on the DeWalt parts exploded diagram as a separate item.

Second question.
On the original arbor there are two flats that correspond with two flats in the large washer that clamps down onto the blade. The new one does not. Should I get a machine shop to put flats on the new arbor or simply drill out the flats in the existing washer?

Bit concerned about mucking up the arbor assembly and ending up with a knackered table saw.

I would take the arbour assembly out of the saw completely and then use a press to remove the old shaft.
It would be best practise to change the bearing at the other end whilst you have it stripped down.
(Don't buy from dewalt - much cheaper from a bearing supplier or online from Arc Euro Trading) Bearing are standard sized parts.

If the old bearing at the blade end stays in the casting, then you can tap it out using a brass rod and small hammer from the other end. lots of light taps around the periphery not one big hard hit.

On no account use a hammer or mallet on the new shaft. Press it in evenly and square on axis.

You should be able to file flats on the new shaft. You will not be able to use a drill on the washer to remove flats. It will jam and go off centre.

You may best best off using a tame mechanic - sorry I'm too far away to do it for you.

To pull the shaft you need to find a way its nut can be used to pull it out of the main casting, a very large socket and some washers or a length of flat bar with a hole for the thread with solid spacers from it to main casting and wind it out . When replacing use the thread at the other end to pull in square.
