I posted this on the Festool owners group forum but thought I'd make you guys aware of it as well, as it was pretty shocking:

I've only bought a couple of Festool tools to date. So far I've bought the Domino 500 and the TS55 both with some of the accessories.

However today I have to say I've had a catastrophic failure. As much as I really like the brand and the tools I cannot believe how bad the quality is of materials used that was the cause of today's failure.

Whilst putting the domino away I noticed my "Festool Fan" sticker and thought it was about time I stuck it up. I have a shelf with my battery tools on it and a MDF edge that would be perfect for the sticker. So up it went and it looked good. Within 30 minutes it had peeled off!

Poor quality from Festool and not what I expect! :)

Probably user error for keeping it for 9 months before using it, maybe it was past its best before date?

Although I suspect the real reason was that it was on a shelf containing Ryobi tools and it didn't want to be associated with them!

My Bosch sticker worked perfectly after 900 years in the box. QED.

Now was that the professional or diy grade sticker, there's a difference you know?

Not so, my Festool Fan sticker fell off my toolbox within days and it was brand new! The sticker I pulled off my Japanese marking knife and stuck on the box at the same time is still there. Festool stickers are pants and I'd never get another:x

Hmm seems that there might be a serious manufacturing issue then and not just an isolated incident. Maybe a class action is needed.

I would ring Festool HQ and ask them to confirm it is covered under their 3 year warranty.

I'm gonna guess that you didn't paint the shelf bright vomit green? That greatly helps with adhesion of FT stickers. It's in the manual.

I just can't believe this. Please tell me you forgot to wipe off the dust from your shelf, and so the stickers peeled off because of this? It simply HAS to be user error.....

It's not a sticker. It's a shim for when you're using veneered MDF. It accounts for the veneer and allows you to get a domino dead centre.

Or maybe it's a ***** sticker.

That will teach you.

You should of brought Mafell

Unfortunately, having spent considerably more on Mafell than Festool, I discovered no sticker at all and no nice Systainer or anything. I had considered complaining, but I hate to think how much they'd charge for phoning them up

Ross

Well if you will buy the cheaper end of the Mafell range...

(if I wasn't so unfit I would run for cover)

:D

Well, I suppose spending 3 quid under a thousand for a saw is probably cheap for Mafell, had I spent 4 grand I'm sure they'd have said thank you on top, but still not given me a b****y systainer :x let alone a sticker.

Not that I'm bitter but their "cross-cut" saws also come with just one rip blade, what's that about then? "oh, if you want a cross cut blade that's another 60 British Pounds, why would you want that for a cross cut saw, no....you still can't have a sticker, please take your dirty boots out of our shop........."

I've told the missus not to worry about the festool gear. However if she sees me with any Mafell stuff she should go mad, I'm ******* tool crazy but even I have limits.

Should I ever start building huge timber frame houses for a living I might have to renegotiate..

:)

Well Festool have heard of my plight and are indeed sending me some new stickers! So can't knock their customer service / PR! I'll let you know what turns up! Lovely response from them when I was obviously only messing about.

Bosch asked me to send them the snail for inspection, but have already sent an advance replacement and reminded me that the shell is reverse threaded.

OMG, does that mean they are monitoring UKW. Just in case...

...I am a big fan of Festool, but I have to look after my widowed mother and 37 orphans so have no money to spare to buy your tools. If you would like to send me one item of your entire range I will bring my mother and the orphans along for a great PR photo shoot. Honest it is all true.
