Dishwasher help - electrical fault

Last week there was a noise from our dishwasher and then the fuse tripped in the main board. There was a smell from the dishwasher like an electrical smell (if that makes sense) so I turned it off. I've turned it back on and it works but I'm unsure whether to trust it or not? Or is it time for a new dishwasher - it's about five years old.

Time for a new one, or at least a service visit. Dishwashers and washing machines are one of the biggest sources of house fires. People believe because they use water and are mostly metal they are fine. We all then tend to put them on before going to bed or going out :?

If it was the drying element then I'd expect it to be permanently u/s.

Could be a snapped wire, our old one did quite a few, they go where they are flexed a lot a the bottom of the door. it might have been arcing before it parted company.

Ours cut through the cable (vibration, I think). It still worked, but we got electric shocks. It's possible.

The biggest failure point on DWs is the wiring that passes into the door. With age the wire hardens, and the use of the door causes failure.
This is often associated with burning of the heavy insulation that is placed around the harness where it leaves the cabinet and passes into the door.
This can mean that the function you have chosen to use is working OK but others, that you may not use, will not work.

Ours stopped heating the water once took a while to work out what was wrong, when we came down in the morning the dishes wheren't as clean as usual.
