I got some of these from the local pound shop

And put them in my tool cupboards, quite amazed how much water they are collecting.

I assume that once they have stopped collecting any more water that you will have to dry them out (in the oven) and repeat the process continually.

No not this type.
once the absorbent is used up you chuck them
I got them for 50p each (2 for £1)
They seem to last about 3 weeks at the moment but my workshop is uninsulated and does get a bit damp
