CNC Information please

i am toying with the idea of buying either a cnc or laser cutter in the future and would appreciate someone with knowledge of either to give me some pointers about what i really need and the programming behind it..

You're probably much better off asking this question in dedicated forums - try http://www.mycncuk.com/ for starters. There are lots of kits out there if you want to go a DIY route, buying a finished machine can be more expensive. Lots of decisions you have to make on what is suited to your needs and budget, such as:

* Drives - ACME screw (common), rack and pinion (fast), ballscrew (expensive)
* Size
* Frame and gantry construction
* Router/spindle

It's a big project that requires a lot of research, not something to plan out in 5 mins.

I've seen one of the Click and Carve machines in action today at Paskins show in Kidderminster and have to say I think it's a very impressive machine
