I've made up my mind this FR Collins is a wind up from the dark side

It's Ol' Grimsdale out to prove we are a bunch of collectors getting excited by the prospect of yet another glittery item we don't really need.

ok I'll say it before someone else does; I may be in the wrong forum.

Cheers
Mr Collins (I'm using formal vernacular as I don't know your name) I think you are slightly missing the point of this. It's not that that you are in the wrong forum, some people will always want your product and others will always believe that it is surplus to requirements, this is the way the world works!

The point is, and I have backed your right to tout your business on here providing it's done in the correct way, but I am now joining the ranks of those who are getting a little ticked off with it, because despite all your words of encouragement for your product and how fantastical and life changing it is/could be, you have offered lots and shown us absolutely nothing!

In short, all your announcement has done is to create a discussion around whether or not you should be touting your potentially 'entirely imaginationary' business on a forum (or at least on how the best way is to do this) when in reality all you need to do is give us a glimpse of what it is you are 'possibly' offering and all this negativity could blow away...

Hope that helps.

Like some with planes etc, I'm pretty passionate about c.s.bs. (among other things) There are as many different types as there are; hand-planes, chisels, hand-saws, etc if treated right and used properly they are the most useful tools in a workshop, a lot of you guys are missing out owning only the one.
Thing is; I know you wouldn't use a tenon saw to rip a plank or use a spoke shave to smooth a large piece of wood, neither would you store them in a way they could get damaged, I'm the same with me c.s.bs.

you may well be right , though I only use my circular and SCMS for specific jobs so have the right blades for those jobs fitted permanently.

however the sailent point here is that taking your comparison with for example planes , yes some members have a lot of planes, but how many of them buy a comercial solution for storing those planes ..not many - mostly being wood workers they build something whether its a heirloom piece like waka's or the prosaic mdf/ply box that i have.

and similiarly with CSBs if i did have a load of blades to store I would knock myself up a storage box to suit my needs, and that basically is the bigest flaw in your marketing IMO

a) there isnt a clearly identified market niche as many woodworkers dont need them and those that do will mostly like build their own

and

b) moderator ruling not withstanding it is not in your interests to post pictures of your idea because those who are your target market are just as likely to pinch your best ideas for thier own builds.

These are exactly the right points BSM.

FRC - in all honesty I just don't understand the quote I've highlighted above. How many ways can there possibly be to store a CSB? A box, with a dowel for centring the blades, and some kind of separation to ensure the teeth don't get dinged. Surely you don't need anything more than that???

I certainly don't, and anything I made would cost me either nothing as I'd use scraps, or the price of some ply wood. Unless I get to see what your revolution is offering me then this is one bandwagon I won't be jumping on I'm afraid...

I must admit that when this thread re-emerged a few weeks ago, I was ready to find a solution to space-efficient storage of about 10 blades and was waiting to see what Mr Collins has come up with.
However all the prevarication and absence of any concrete information, I have made myself a box out scrap beech and screwed to the side of the tablesaw. All the blades fit easily on their edges resting on wood with sheets of card from cereal packets separating each blade.

So one less potential sale to me Mr Collins. I suggest you put your product on the market suitably protected by patents and let us all see it.

Bob
