I visit mine, it depends on how many teeth your saw blade has.I think it normally costs me £15 for a 350mm triple chip bade (with lots of teeth). Hopefully someone can recommend you one in your area.

My saw doctor calls on a monday and brings back sharpened blades the folowing monday. Cost varies on number of teeth. A rip blade probably £5 a fine crosscut blade £10-£12. Set of 3 12inch planer blades about £9. If you have any local cabinet or joinery workshops they should be able to put you in touch with someone local.

Dicktimber, whereabouts in Scotland are you ? I use the Saw Doctor shop on Pollockshaw Road in Glasgow. They're quite happy to either post the blade back to you or hang onto it until you're next there.

Any chance of exposure to damp during lay up I've got into a habit of using a can of spray grease - cutters, blades, trowels, you name it I give it a light coat.

About 2 quid for a spray can and lasts ages.

I sometimes have a problem with rust spots at this time of year spray sealing tools and blades with the problem sounds a good idea, and a little thinners would clean them before using them.

Hello everyone, I'm almost there with the product I mentioned at the start of the thread. It's taking a little longer than anticipated but it's looking good and works really well.
I have to admit since I posted the original message I have been reading many of your comments on other wood tool products, you's can be a right critical bunch so I'm pretty apprehensive about sending the details now. However I'm going to give it a go as I will be trying to sell you's all at least one pretty soon. I have already received very positive reactions from everyone I have trailed them with so I'm expecting only good things from you folk, only joking, but I am confident it is a product worth having in any workshop large or small.

I'll be in touch soon, I still have to figure how to post photo's on to the forum.

In the meantime - Saw Safe

I await with scepticism

You have been on this site a handfull of times, not offered very much except to sell this wonder product of yours

Have a look at the first sticky in the Chat - off topic section to read all about posting pictures.

May i suggest you take care to keep it non commercial to stay within forum rules otherwise you will have Charley on your tail.

Good luck

Bob

Many thanks for the advise folks, your right I don't post to often to be honest I haven't got the time at the minute and I'm not really sure if I am using it correctly anyway. I have had a look at the rules but I'm still unsure if I should be using this forum for this purpose (by the way thats not because of the way the rules are explained its just I'm not to good at working these things out sometimes) so rather than doing something I shouldn't it may be best if I don't continue this thread.

Thanks for now, Saw-Safe

Oh come on folks, if you're a mod it's fine to sell, if you've been a poster for a minute or three, it's fine to sell, why is this guy particularly getting stick?

(personally, I'm old-school anti-spam internet, but that really isn't the way this place is operated)

I think the difference is whether its comercial or not - most of the for sale stuff on here is people clearing out their shops (or tom getting shot of whatever expensive thing he's just got bored of )

joining purely to promote your product is a different fish of kettles - and yeah we do hace at least one mod who runs a comercial biz, but he does do other stuff on the site as well , not purely promotion of his products.

Advertising a commercial product through the website without first contacting Charley and paying for your advertisement is the issue.

As an aside, personally, I do not see the need for this product anyway - I always use the same blade for crosscut and rip and would expect most hobbyists to do likewise as more than one blade is expensive (my CMT was over £50), many blades are great for both cuts and the time saved by going to a rip blade for rip cuts is lost in the change-over for a hobbyest who will likely only be ripping a few pieces of wood.

I feel I need to reply to you comment, Tony, I wasn't intending to sell my product on the forum I was hoping for some feedback on it's usefulness, but I understand this is still in a sense advertising it.

Cheers.

Peter Cook fan?

Haven't seen any selling he's no Dino. Perhaps the product is better than the nail my blades hang on  why don't we at least allow ourselves to see the product?

I tend to agree with Jake here.

If you're trade and you post examples of your work does that count as advertising? Should that be banned unless its paid for? I think not. So cut the guy some slack.

Thanks, studders, I was away for a bit of a break just got back yesterday.

I'm still not sure how showing one product can be classed as advertising while showing another and asking for info is not, anyway I have no real issue with this.

However, what I do take issue with is that someone who believes it proper to suggest I was looking for free advertising can then go on to voice their opinion on my product on the forum or anywhere else for that matter without even seeing it or knowing anything about it!

It would be interesting if anyone could give me an indication of how this can be done.

Cheers

My feeling ( and only my personal view) is that there is little harm in posting pictures and descriptions of what you have done as this could be of interest to readers here.

Where it starts being commercial is when you add for example a price list and ordering information.

It seems there is a possibility of a feature in BW if I read the runes correctly and this will give you publicity and opportunity to 'advertise'

HTH

Bob

Who is now curious about your product !!

I would expect that its this comment that triggered the mod concern - asking for opinions on a product you intend to make is one thing, but telling us about it with the stated intent of selling it to us is something else entirely.

IMO the bottom line is its not down to what we the members think - Charley pays for the server so charley makes the rules - the mod team enforce the rules, and its encumbent on everyone else to follow the rules.

so if the rules say no comercial activity (with the definition of comercial being at charley / mod discretion) then thats that.

members running woodworking buisnesses showing off their work is completely different - so long as they arent saying" look at this beautiful kitchen , why not buy one just like it from me" which they arent , then no commerce is taking place, and their showing of their work is no different to a lawyer displaying his knowldege of legislation or an architet displaying knowledge of building regs

Advertising or selling this product is not something I am trying to do, certainly not at this time anyway. At this stage I have only a prototype of the product although it works very well, I have no prices sorted nor I have I any for sale as yet, but I am hoping to have things worked out and a; retailer/retailers stocking them before Christmas.

I understand what you mean though, I did post:
"However I'm going to give it a go as I will be trying to sell you's all at least one pretty soon", one of my messages.
I can genuinely say I did not mean; via the forum or directly in any way, however sometimes things are wrote different to what is meant. For example: I'm sure when this was posted:
"As an aside, personally, I do not see the need for this product anyway" by concerned forum user, they really meant to say "I do not see the need for a product of this type" as they haven't seen the product yet.
But these things happen and life goes on, things get done, people stay friends and the sun shines well "sometimes the sun shines".

Cheers
