It never rains but it pours!!!!!!!
I was at a social this afternoon and was offered some quarter-sawn English Oak. There is apparently a 10' butt that was about 3 to 4 foot in diameter, quarter sawn and stacked 10 years ago. It has some woodworm in the sapwood, and there is some marking from a lightning strike, but apparently some really nice stuff in there too.
I have only seen 2 boards from the pile (a friend had them), and it looks really good and dry, flat (not twisted), and generally ready for furniture making.
I won't get to see the whole lot until next weekend, but am after expressions of interest. I couldn't manage the whole lot myself. It will certainly be cheap, but it won't be silly money, and the whole lot has to go.
Anyone interested?
Mike
