Mike,

I don't know if you have received any pm's from me. If so I apologise, but I seem to be having problems sending them.

Anyway, I'll take as much as you want to let me have.

I can do the 21/22nd. Saturday would be better but no big deal.

I'll would be taking my Hilux pickup and I'm in the Rugby area, so if anyone wants to share the petrol, there will be plenty of room for wood!!

Thanks for all the PM's, fellas.

I reckon I am up to about half the stash accounted for, roughly. Anyone who was in any doubt as to whether it would all be gone when they got there can rest easy...........there should be a really good choice, although the larger sections seem to be quite sought after.

Everyone who has expressed a preference has said Saturday, so I will make it Saturday only, with a 10am start (earliest) so that it is reasonably fair for those with longer journeys.

I still need more takers, though! At the moment I will have to be renegotiating, embarrassingly, with my farmer friend...........although the price will stay the same.

I'll do directions etc in a few days. If absolutely necessary I will be able to organise storage for anyone who can't get there on the day.......

........and as for payment..........cash only on the day, please. (Does this cause any problems?)

Mike

I would break your arm off for some of this Mike but I can't get down there anytime soon.

If anyone is heading over there to collect some, has the transport room and is anywhere closer to me oop North that has the transport to pick some up for me and store it for a week or two (for a small fee or couple of beers obviously) then I would be happy to take a few hundred quids worth.

Let me know if so and a deal can be done.

Cheers

Mark

HI. I've been a lurker on this site for a long time, reading the posts in the general woodworking area, I know this is a bit cheeky , but if you need an honest joiner to make up the numbers I would be interested.

info about me: I'm a self employed joiner/carpenter in the guildford area,
who trys to specialize in listed buildings, with a home work shop..
now I've registered I'll have to finally interact..

Yep. Thats the deal!!!!

Welcome aboard!

Are you in this thread because you are after some oak? Let me know, as there is plenty.

Cheers

Mike

Mike

Ive sent you a pm

I have the time , the vehicle , and the help and saturday week is fine with me.

well yeah., I am hoping to make my sister an oak coffee table for her wedding (in july) also a new solid oak front door for my mum, which hopefully I can use some of this timber for... I've got a van and can be there.

Saturday it is then. I take it you'll be there to tot up the volume and work out charges Mike, or is the owner doing that?

I assume you'll pm all interested parties with the co-ordinates?

Anybody got any idea what we could expect this to weigh per cubic foot? I'm trying to plan how much will go on the roof.

Mark: would you mind sticking one or two boards in for me?

I'm sure we can work something out Tom, do you want to come along or will your new proper job be keeping you off the streets?

Right.......we've got past the tipping point, chaps, so this will certanly go ahead.

Everyone will have plenty to choose from, as there seems to be 50 to 60 cubic feet spoken for out of at least 75 and maybe as much as 90 cubic feet.

I'll mail directions etc in the next few days, but will specify now that it will be Saturday only, with a 10 o'clock kick-off. I will be there, of course, and you'll be paying me........it'll all be my wood by then (which means I haven't paid him yet!!). I'll put some signs out on the road too.

I will also organise for a big RAS to by there if people want to reduce lengths, and I'll try and remember a kettle, milk etc.......

Just one thing I would like opinions on: do we have a free-for-all first-come first served, or do we try and agree "slots"? Access is a bit restricted, both for cars, and for people in the shed.

I grateful for all the PM's, and for all your interest.

Cheers

Mike

I've double booked myself. I'll be oop north. I was hoping to go on the Sun but it looks like Mike's just doing the Sat now. I just want enough for the toy box that I have been making forever. Will mail you

For those of you who can make the Saturday, if you're nearer to me than Mike is, is there any chance you could pick up some of the Oak for me.
I can't make it on the Saturday but would be able to pick up pretty soon depending on where you are.
Obviously I'd be willing to pay in advance so no one is out of pocket.

Anyone west of London would be fine with me, Somerset, Wiltshire etc would be ideal.

I might mate - depending on how much you want , it looks like i'm picking up 10 cu ft for our project plus 1 or 2 for another wiltshire member. so if you only want a few boards id be happy to help but if you want 3 tonne or summat then it aint gonna fit on my truck

I'm at broad hinton near swindon just off J16 of the M4

LOL @ 3 tonne - that would be quite a lot of wood.
I'm thinking of a couple of Cu ft.
Depends on how much you can fit in really. 5 Cu ft would be great for me if you could fit it in.

I'll get back to you on that i'll need to check what my Max gros weight on the truck and trailer is at 20kg per cubic foot I'm already committed to 240 kg (plus me and my helper). 5 for you would take that up to 340kg which might be pushing our luck - i really dont want to get vospa'd

i'll pm you later once ive checked and give you an address to post the cheque and pick up the wood (unless you would rather post a cheque to mike direct - whatever works)

Mark,

roughly 20kg per cubic foot is what I read.......

Any idea how much you are after?

To all coming a week on Saturday:

Does anyone have a view on whether we should all turn up and work it out like gents, or should I allot time slots?

Mike
