All I can tell you is my personal choice and the outcome.
I had a cheap up and over metal door replaced with a powered roller shutter door by seceuroglide.
Installers around the country, so they will be available local to you.
Aluminium, 15mm thick slats with insulation inside. Opens with a remote control fob.
Foiled or powder coated. We had it colour matched to our house door.
There is a roughly 12x12 inch box that spans the top of the door for it to roll up into. It was possible to position that between the timbers supporting the flat roof so a lot of the bulk went up high and I got 2 m clear opening height.
But to make that work, the door slides had to sit between the brick pillars either side of the opening and this cost me a couple of inches width each side of the opening. The door moved a few inches towards the front of the garage and I gained that little distance inside which was useful when your space is rammed full.
The other way to install a roller door is to fix the slides onto the back of the brick pillars which maximises the width of the opening but then the roller box would have lined up underneath a roof joist and I'd have lost several inches height instead.
It's a trade off. Examine the installation drawings and work out which fitting position best suits your garage.
Our single door looks tidy, the installers did a good job and came back when I needed it tweaked a week later without any complaint at all.
My sister has the same in double width and recommended it to me. I'll second the recommendation to anyone else.
