The ends of the saw are not even visible but by my rough calculations, based on the height of the men standing, it could be 30' long. How on earth would they have controlled it?

Looks like a nice clean cut, too!

Given our interest, it goes without saying that I'm very much in favour of ex-trees, but there are some I rather wish were still standing and that would be one, I think.

Ooo, you'd get some lovely wide boards outta that one. Given the posing for the picture they must have reckoned it was a pretty exceptional job even then. Too bad you can't see the handles on the saw, which looks about 1 tpi incidentally... :shock:
