I have again been busy in the shop this week. I was hoping to get these finished for just after Christmas but it looks like it will be in the new year now. I still have a top panel to make and the glass to fit in the doors. I shall get them fitted in January now though.

Unfortunately the timber merchants are now closed until the new year as is the glass company. Looks like I am in for a rest now then. :D

I am enjoying it so far although most of the money I am making is going back out again at the moment. I do have a few more jobs lined up for the new year so hopefully I should start to see some profit then.

Hi
They look very nice!

I am thinking of a six door set to close off my conservatory, and they would need to be pretty airtight as their whole purpose is to save heat loss.
what hinges and door furniture would you recommend?

I am also going to be making internal shutters for all my windows soon so i assume the hinges needed would be the same.

Mike

Mike, for an airtight six door set, I would recommend rebating the doors together at the hinge joints, using a rubber-seal. Butt hinges should be okay depending on the thickness of the door/rebates.

Nice job Mailee.

Mike, I have used the Henderson weatherfold system for folding sliding doors (just checked and it's been replaced by this http://www.pchenderson.com/sliding_door ... old&id=329). It's an exterior product and you will be able to make it weather tight. It's available in different guises from several places but I have used SDS London before and they have a guy that knows the system and can help you order the right bits. It's not cheap but it is good. One thing to remember is that any movement - shrinkage/expansion - of the leafs, it's multiplied by 6 so you will need to make allowances for this and make sure your timber is well conditioned.

Well I got the doors fitted today. Of course the opening wasn't square so I had to 'adjust' the frame slightly but it all went well.

Excuse the photos but it looks like the lens was misted, I think it was due to the heat in there after coming in from the cold. Customer was very happy I am glad to say.
