I'm intrigued by the unfortunate fishing vessel capsize in the English channel.

Any idea what the white rectangles are that are randomly located about the hull ?

Thanks, the sacrificial blocks makes sense, just surprised they appear random spacing, adjacent to thinning hull or repairs perhaps.
 
The position of the anodes does appear rather strange, normally in areas that are expected to suffer the greatest level of erosion to paint film, around intake and discharge points and around the stern.
