Any clock makers on here who can advise on clock mechanisms?

I have recently started manufacturing clocks and whilst the clocks look very nice, I am frustrated at the lack of quality mechanisms and nice contemporary hand options on the market. I have been using mechanisms from an ebay seller. Sweeping mechanisms with nice bright red baton style hands. Trouble is, the mechanisms are &££$ and I have just had a call from a client telling me theirs has stopped working. They only received it yesterday :-( Upshot of this, is that in total I will have had to pay for 3 lots of shipping at £12 / hit.

Anyone know where I can buy decent mechanisms which also have a nice selection of contemporary hands to choose from. I have trawled google extensively, but all decent clock mechanisms seem to ship with very traditional black hands which just won't work with the look I am seeking.

Can't help with the clocks, but pleased to see you're still having a go with the business :D

Have sold 2 so far, so am running it as a side line. The realisation hit early new year that it was not an economically viable income generator and I ended up back in IT, but as a contractor. So it's self employed.

It's very satisfying to sell a clock and have the end user tell you how happy they are with it.

Almost quartz clock mechanisms look cheap. They are made by the million in the far east.

A good source of clocks is auction rooms. There is no market for mechanical clocks unless they are extremely special antiques, and mechanical movements can be had regularly for a song in provincial auction rooms and car boot sales. Easy to remove from the case, clean and re-purpose as a value added product.

I've bought clock parts from Martin H Dunn before which were very good quality German made quartz movement.
Although I'm not sure now if he is still trading?

i dont think that Martin Dunn is still trading. I had a look for the website a few months ago and it looked then like he had ceased.

I bought a quartz movement from "newgenerationclocks" on Ebay. I went for the UTS high torque version - it is not so cheap, made in Germany and the one I have, at least, it still working a few years on, and seems to be pretty accurate.

My clock is 400mm diameter with long hands, that I made from thin aluminium sprayed black. I went to some care to counterbalance the hands, which were at the upper length recommended by the mechanism manufacturer.
