I'm looking to install a second telephone line so I can stick a landline telephone number on my website. What I'm after is the lowest possible line rental. Outgoing calls will be minimal. Any suggestions? Vonage?

If you don't mind VoIP - I was looking at this company a few days ago - seemed reasonable and was able to speak to a friendly helpful person on the other end of the line (also useful for checking out the call quality). £2 a month. http://soho66.co.uk/

Have a look at my previous post https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=34247&highlight=
I did not bring out the point that its a second phone line of high quality and i now have two instruments connected to the router one each which give two outgoing lines but only one incoming. Also i will only pay the 50p tariff on the main physical line.
Gidon - what format is the number that you give out to people for when they want to ring you?
Old - looking at the plusnet site seems to suggest 'you can keep your existing number'. Do you have a link to their page where you got the service to give an different number?
G1 - we don't have that service in the UK.
We have our existing phone number which my wife uses. The existing router is attached to that. So do either of the above services provide a second incoming telephone number? Seems to suggest that they do.
Roger - you can choose a local number or a non-geographic number - eg 0845 / 0333. If you go to "sign up now" - you can see what numbers are available - before entering any details.
Nice thing about VoIP is there are lots of additional features that you may or may not need - for one you can use the number where ever you are.

They could improve their website to say 'what happens next' when you place your order, explain that provisioning can take up to x minutes etc. You have to hunt around a lot to find out all the bits and pieces.
