I was just looking at your photos...

Your saw has a rail along the back - the non fence side.

That seems odd. The later fence saws don't (to my memory) have the bar along the back at all.

Maybe its just there for the extension tables, I don't know. Just seemed odd when I saw it.

Are both rails the same diameter? I mean the one on the front and the one on the rear?

They are the same dia. i believe, its a part of the extension table and they have 2 bars running between them to screw the side table to

Now i have the a motor and dol starter wired thanks to help from @guineafowl21 and @MikeK I can move back to the saw itself, finally!
It took a few days to figure out where i could put it and have any work room left but and this is what i've decided on. Once i have finished working on it i will take it off the wheels and work to get them both flush as one large table. The empty one on the right will eventually become a router table or disk sander.

The current plan for the next few days is to finish turning the oak you see on the lathe to make a temporary fence slide rail and a temporary pulley wheel from some cherry i have laying around so i can see how the bearings sound and take a few test cuts, if anyone can link me to somewhere i can buy a new pulley with metric bore that will match the original ags10 diameter that would be wonderful, otherwise ill find someone local to open it out from 5/8 to24mm. I also want to try and turn down some brass/bronze revolving handles to replace the two on the saw.

Ill take the tops off and clean them both and give the inside a good wire brushing to clear out the old compact sawdust so it moves fully again; i've not counted yet but i reckon this gives @AndrewS 9 dustpans a run for the money. It came free with the saw under the dust chute/slide.

The other thing, as you can see, is a hole has been cut for dust collection but i've removed and will switch the bottom base section for the other without a gaping rectangle in
At this point i will get it set up properly ready for use until i can get everything for a full resto ready to go in a few weeks

i've already checked inside and all the teeth are intact, everything was well looked after except the micro adjust pinion with was chewed up and worn down most of the length of the teeth so ill buy one from @deema asap

I will also replace the starter when possible as its not dust proof at all and the buttons are a little small for my liking. Can anyone can recommend a starter that will fit in the old MEM starter box that originally came with the ags' as it would be nice to keep the original look

Had to wait till today today go and pick up the pulley as they had to machine it for me last night but it fit perfect and it was nice to see they took the time to make sure it was balanced.!

I would have just put the motor on and had it running until the bearings arrived but i had to move the motor plate down a little to adjust for the new one and decided to just take the top off and take a look as it was getting a little late to make test cuts today. Its nice and well looked after for the most part, just the dust to clear out but ill take it apart tomorrow, see what needs a paraffin soak and start trying to get the spindle housing apart ready for new bearings on Friday.
I still need to give the top a clean down but ill do with paraffin tomorrow and buff it to a nice shine and do both, the side tables and the slide rail at the same time.



I love the wasps nest look to the highly compact dust you always find around the blade; i had to remove what i could with a chisel and mallet, ill get the rest off and clean it out properly tomorrow as long as the suns shining and i can wheel it outside

I've found my first and it looks like only real problem if anyone has any ideas. The rise/fall turnwheel is wedged; it seems like someone previously hit it with something heavy and got the star-knob very wedged. The handle looks to have been broken and glued back on at all three "spokes" which i noticed when the joins came loose trying to free the star-knob.

The cracks im not worries about as ill join them with CT1 or loctite weld and paint over them when i get to stripping it all but i cannot figure out how ill get the knob off, and the handle has about half a rotation of slack due to the back of the handwheel not being locked onto rivet as seen above
Obviously heat wont work due to the material and im trying to avoid cutting the knob off and having to replace it. Luckily it doesn't look like the threads are damaged or pushed in and hopefully just very stuck; pen fluid seems a pain due to being vertical..


On a happier note, the new pulley was perfect, the motors on and actually wired in the correct direction now and the new bearings arrived. Ill likely order some paint from Paragon in the coming week but at £60 i might wait until next month when i'll surely be able to work outside without worrying about sudden hail storms

Its been a little while as the shed reaches 50+ degrees this time of year and its unbearable to go in but i have had it apart, gave it all a basic clean and go things set up and in place until i can get a puller for the arbor pulley to replace the bearings so its a little progress.


Today i went out and made a temp fence rail as the first attempt with the lathe didn't go so well so i did it slowely and patiently this time, little by little with a rasp. I only expect to use it for a few weeks until i can buy some 40mm steel round and find a local to take it down to 39mm but i reackon it'll do the job for the time being.
