Just started out making a hall stand to fit into our coastal themed hall , I was given two slabs of salted beech by daughters partner both 3 inches thick one is around 5 foot long by 3 foot wide the other is 4 foot long by 3 foot wide and my wife said she would like a hall stand with a costal feel so I thought chunky top 4 draws 4 sea grass baskets and a shelf so started yesterday cutting the 3 inch beech into a piece 54"x 14" and keeping the waney edge so it looks like a chunk of drift wood

The first pic is the second piece of beech stood on end , The cutting was quite easy cut in three passes down to 2 1/2" then flipped over for final 1/2" planed the cut edge straight and now comes the sanding of the top face followed by a quick sanding on the bottom face I will post more pics as it progresses20250310_142514.jpg
