a beach find

Parked on the beach road yesterday and storms had washed up this length of timber.

1.3mtr of 50x50 and it is very very heavy. Hoping when it dries out it is going to be greenheart or teak.

Not quite enough to make a sea chest, but perhaps a minature.

Post another pic in a few weeks time!

I doubt if its Greenheart or Teak as these timber don't float.

DW- nice bit of flotsam 'n jetsam. You'll need to let it dry very slowly outside under cover for two or three years min. When you are finally able to machine it, the top 6 mm or so on all surfaces may well have to be removed by hand (an old woodie is excellent for this) because of the sand and grit in the surface of the timber. Unless you like re-honing planer blades my advice is not to put it thru' the P/T until all surfaces are clean
If it was below normal high water mark, then I do believe :? that it belongs to HM...anyone know the correct legal position? - Rob

Can't be flotsam and jetsam. Jetsam is stuff purposely thrown away and flotsam is accidental.....

You might be better off kicking lumps out of it and listing it as driftwood art.
