Wanted Single Festool connectors for son’s school A-Level project

Even if he can get them elsewhere, a letter to Festool requesting samples would be pretty good addition to the project.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

An urgent handrail on a kitewinder staircase, for an elderly relative struggling with mobility. I wasn't sure I'd be able to pull off a continuous rail around the corner but it turned out OK, after a little bit of headscratching and befuddlement. PS: the dark handrail on the LH of the...

Plugging existing hinge holes in MDF

For one-offs, I like to scribe the rebate for the fore-end/faceplate first. I screw the faceplate to the door, then scribe around it with a stanley knife. Then I cut the mortice for the lock body, and finally chop out the shallow rebate for the fore-end. Having the screw holes for the...

    portable chisel storage

Not many chisels, and not exclusively chisels, but this is a recent revision of my site handtools. I wanted everything where I can get it without having to rifle/dig through layers of crap like my old tool tote. It should also be apparent if something is missing by a visible gap.

Removing/replacing a fitted kitchen cupboard back?

If you cut the panel flush with the carcass on one side with a multitool, you should be able to remove it. I fit 15mm battens to the carcas, so they cover the original rebate for the back, and then trim the back so it can be inserted from the front, and discreetly secured with a couple of...

    Rehanging hardwood stuck patio doors

The doors appear to overlap the frame on all sides, like a storm proof window. This will complicate any trimming of the edges. It's very common for the normally closed leaf of double doors to bind, as it is opened so infrequently. You'll need to check the mechanism isn't stopping the door...

    Plumbing problem...

I don't think this is correct. The hot water is not pressurized, it is the coil which heats the hot water (as part of the sealed system) which needs to be depressurized. Opening a hot tap will release water from your tank, which will be topped up by cold water from the mains feed.

Loose MDF door hinges and screws

The MDF has split, so you need to address this before trying to get the screws to bite. You could try flooding the split with thin superglue, then squeezing it shut, ideally with a clamp. Fundamentally, it's a poor choice of hinge for this application, as MDF has very little stregth in this...

    Log Cabin Workshop 3.5m x 4.5m

The problem here is that dunster cabins are specifically sized to meet roof height limits so they don't require PP. Adding even 1 row of bricks would raise the building above permitted height. I guess you could omit some of the logs from the walls to compensate.

    Log Cabin Workshop 3.5m x 4.5m

I opted to position mine so the bearers were essentially flush with the back and side nearest my neighbour. The step this created at the front is mostly sheltered by the overhang above the double doors, and is quite nice to sit on in good weather. I also assembled mine differently to the...

    Log Cabin Workshop 3.5m x 4.5m

When I erected my Dunster cabin I had a paint kettle of clear wood preserver on hand, and each timber got a generous application along the grooved joint surfaces as it was assembled. Once it was completed I used a garden sprayer to treat the inside, and painted the outside with a dark...

For Sale Elu Flip over saw 240v

I got this second hand, probably 20 years ago. It's missing a few bits and pieces, but it's still in good working order. For the last 10 years it's been mostly tucked under a bench in my workshop, as the tracksaw had really replaced it, and it's too heavy to get out and setup unless I...

Best 165mm blade for fine woodworking?

At 165mm I'm guessing this is a tracksaw? I've found the Dewalt extreme blade I'm using very good - it seems to be lasting better than Trend blades I've used in the past, and you can get a three pack of 2 x 24 tooth and 1 x 40 tooth for about £35 quid.

    Parkside speed clamps

That's a great price. The quick clamps are head and shoulders better than the knockoffs, even if they don't have the grunt of larger heavier clamps. The relatively light weight makes them great for working away from the workshop, as a comparable quantity of proper clamps would give you a hernia!
