    Cheap Sander

Andy, It worked fine on various sanders, ie. both coarse and fine dust. Are you referring to the little black and red PP extractor bout the size of a petrol can? If so, No real loss of suction in use. The thing has a cloth bag with a plastic 'Grip strip' to close it after emptying, plus a...

    Cheap Sander

Hi, I used the same extractor on my sanders in the workshop. It worked well until the bearings gave out - which wasn't very long, just a few working hours. I replaced it with the larger (yellow/black)PP workshop vac, which looks altogether better quality (it has a 3-year guarantee). Only time...

    Phenolic Sheet

Grey?. I think what you are looking at is probably humble PVC. It's cheap. 8mm is plenty stiff and flat enough for what you need. Iused 8mm (grey) PVC(u) for making some featherboards for my router table. It's tough, surprisingly stiff and plenty slippery enough to run a router across. I got...

    Toshiba

Any Toshiba laptop is going to be a pretty safe bet IMO. I'm real pleased with mine so far. The Toshiba software is very intuitive to use and doesn't appear to slow mine down (M40 Pro PSM46E-00H002EN). Also has XP Pro - is that an important factor for a reliable computer?

How to work wood and SAVE MONEY

Alf wrote: If you mean as in wearing out, all cheapo sets are carbon steel and will quickly oblige. My money saving tip is don't buy the set - buy individual taps/dies as required, as many of the sizes in a typical set probably will never get used. Buy HSS ones (like Dormer etc)from the...

    Redefining the term 'crass stupidity'

I'd imagine the humiliation alone is akin to punishment, although that depends on her character. Jail sounds too harsh - that should be reserved for those with pre-meditated criminal intent. A good stretch of community service with tasks set appropriate to the circumstances, I reckon would...

    Problem with Dulux Once

Once I would have said no. But after I used the Professional Undercoat I would't use anything else - it's gives excellent coverage and it's not significantly more expensive than other branded paint - given it's speed of application, coverage and smoothness, I reckon it's good value. I think...

    Problem with Dulux Once

It's acrylic-based isn't it? More and more paint products are going acrylic. All down to environmental concerns about reducing VOC emissions. I think they are a poor substitute for oil based paints/varnishes and inferior in smoothness, finish and weather-resistance. I now use Dulux...

Just how flat should Iexpect my new chisel ?

Hi Alan, I know what you mean about the general finish. They are hand linished rather than surface ground. I'd rather see nicely ground steel, but of course from a purely practical aspect it makes no difference in their use. 0.25 mil concavity wouldn't take long to flatten. AI production...

Workshop Insulation a new product to consider

Widely used in the States I believe. Very effective as by nature of it's application, there are no gaps left to form cold spots. Not sure of the relative EI though. Ike

Even better, contact Watchdog.. I'll bet this isn't some 'administrative error' or 'mistake' of company policy, someone's there is running a private scam, and you should get them running scared. Ike

Like Adam, tempted by an Apple...

I think that is the whole nub of it. Macs are stylish, I'm sure they work very well, but are also niche, trendy, and relatively expensive. I went the laptop route recently and plumped for a Toshiba and it just does the job with no problems at all. Probably all the preloaded Toshiba software...
