Fed up!

First thing this morning I got a letter and parcel. Parcel is form Woodrat and should be #2 cutter set (1/2", 9 pieces) but is in fact a #1 set (8mm, 6 pieces) but in a #2 box. Phone call gets the right one posted out but probably won't get it until Monday - when I am back at work

Letter is from Parcelforce claiming £14.18 VAT and £13.50 clearance fees on my order of push pads that Chris recommended http://woodworker.com/cgi-bin/FULLPRES.exe?PARTNUM=124-205

I heard these were posted out 19 days ago and have been quite excited about getting them (must get out more, I know).

Well, as they cost £12 to buy, I queried the charges with Parcelforce after 46 minutes on hold. They say, "nothing to do with us mate, speak to customs and excise." BUT, the letter is from Parcelforce says I, on your letter headed paper. No, says them, it is sent by C&E and only they can change the charges.

Phoned C&E, (only took 15 minute to get to speak to someone this time), and they had told parcelfarce that no charges were due as the total value is less than £18. They will fax PF and ask PF to fax some info to C&E. Oh, and they say that PF sent the letter to me, not C&E.

The farce continues and I get closer to killing the lot of them - I have wasted a whole morning of my hols on this.

Moral? Don't just pay the charges on the sheet, check first.

Thanks for listening, it helped

Well somebody has got to pay for all the parcels that disappear without trace in the PF system.
Joking apart, it seems that rip-off britain is becoming the norm.

Tony

Your perserverance in chasing it up has paid off, but we shouldn't have to do that. I wonder how much money is going to PF because people don't go through the checks.

Oh Goody... I've just placed my order for a Eurekazone 'smartguidesystem' from the States - so we'll see how that goes... I'll let you know of the experience...

Shady

What is it?

It's a 'generic' equivalent to the Festool guiderail/ ATF saw system that has got pretty good reviews from a small fan base (mostly US based). I want it because:

a) It's significantly cheaper, but seems reasonable quality.
b) I'm doing some remodelling, and have a need to cut a significant number of MDF/ply panels quickly and accurately to size - which is it's prime purpose.
c) Unlike the Festool system, it'll take any circular saw - or router, with attachements.

I'll post a review if/when it arrives.

(edit - specifically, the '100' package, which will allow a single accurate cut the full length of an 8 foot panel.)

Bizarrely, I bought it because they're also posting 3 of them on e-bay with a lower reserve price - so I covered half the cost of postage to the UK as opposed to buying direct. Link here:

I bid '160' dollars, and got one. Now just the postage/customs fun and games to go through....

Well, Customs phoned me as they said they would and they have now told PF that there are no charges to pay on the parcel and I should be able to pick it up tomorrow

Tony

I had this with TNT a couple of years ago with some work clothing I'd ordered from Canada.

They were wanting to charge £350 vat and duty on products valued at £120. I told them that if they could demonstrate how they calculated their charges then I would pay if I thought it was fair. Got a credit note for the full amount about a week later.

There are various sites showing that most of the charges are just made up and since they are normally received by businesses, just get paid.

Very annoying.

Cheers

Tim

Under £18 no charge from the C& E, yet when you land at London Airport I was pleasantly surprised the last time, I think it was £175 and I suppose if there are two of you that amounts to £350?.
Also I think I saw an increase pending on those figures in the press.
It could soon be cheaper to go and get them yourself :)

Today, PF deny C&E talking to them about this and STILL WON'T GIVE ME MY PARCEL

I could learn to hate these people

Even better, contact Watchdog.. I'll bet this isn't some 'administrative error' or 'mistake' of company policy, someone's there is running a private scam, and you should get them running scared.

well tony have you collected names and timings
so you can prove it. sorry mate, but in this world that
is now what you have to do.

chase up the tracking number with pf head office, and see whether
that will kick them up the arse.
paul

Or see if the local police are interested in accompanying you to PF on the basis that fraud may be being perpetrated.

Well, I got a letter from the Bristol PF depot today:

It's in, no duty, but VAT and an eight pound handling fee. Not too bad: should arrive tomorrow...

I got a similar letter. No VAT, no import. No goods either though

They still have not delivered!!!!

... maybe someone got scared and destroyed the evidence...

AAaaaarrggghhhhh!!!

Phoned today to ask where my goods are and PF tell me that....

...they have no idea!!! They promised to phone back. Didn't.

Well, mine arrived, but with the top half of the pack torn open, which meant that I'm missing a package of fairly difficult to source nuts and bolts for mounting the saw to the system... Have e-mailed the manufacturer, and now have to wait for new bits...

Sigh...

Tony - please let us know what happens on Monday. This really looks like a fiddle, the money, had you choosen to pey it would probably never have gone to C&E

UPDATE****

Nothing has happened! I don't have my parcel, parcel farce have no idea where it is, customs have no idea

I have written to parcel farce head office asking for compensation - heard nothing so far

I have phoned parcel farce offices once a week to keep their mind on the job and been promised return calls every time. Received one so far - to tell me they cannot find the parcel
