Its the spam trap - you'll be fine after a few posts. Here you go... Nice work by the way...

Recommend me a good Sliding Mitre Saw or even not sliding

Makita LS1013 - around £500 new but you never know. It depends as well on the depth of cut - not just the width. The makita has a 10" blade - you can get a Bosch GCM with an 8" blade new for just over £200 but you lose the depth of cut.

    Pencil and paper

I would particularly say that, if you want to present it to a client, then a computer generated image like those of Dave R will go down much better than even the best paper drawing most of us could manage. When I'm in the workshop and I need to quickly work something out - I use pencil and...

Advice for a workshop "newbie" please

Some things can be bought cheap - others shouldnt. A table saw definitely shouldn't be done on the cheap though.

Advice for a workshop "newbie" please

I would second the bandsaw - its the first piece of machinery I bought and I'd recommend it to anyone starting out. As far as table saws go, if you are sure you want/need a table saw, then buy the best you can afford. Its not the place you want to be cutting costs and saving money.

    K-bodies discounted

So which one do our US cousins prefer - the new Bessey or the Jet? I'm going to the States soon and might pick some up.

    K-bodies discounted

Aren't the new Bessey's similar to the Jet's?

    K-bodies discounted

I have to admit I used to be sceptical. Then I bought a pair of K Bodies - now I curse every time I build something bigger than that pair of clamps!!!

EZ Smart - Worth buying in the UK?

I already have the saw and have had no problems with the cut so far. I do check it before each big use and have never had to adjust it unless I've changed the blade.

EZ Smart - Worth buying in the UK?

Thanks Wizer. My saw is around 400mm x 180mm. So width wise its fine. Lengthwise, to allow the saw guard to close, I would need to cut straight through the back of the smart base. What do you think? Will the base twist? Too dangerous?

EZ Smart - Worth buying in the UK?

Its not the Triton - that really was a big beast for handheld use. Its a Hitachi C9U2. The reason I ask is that paying another $75 for a large base really starts to make the system look expensive. Is there any chance someone could measure the Smart base so I can work out how much the Hitachi...

EZ Smart - Worth buying in the UK?

Does anybody use a 235mm (9 1/4") saw with the EZ? I have been emailing Dino about my order and he recommends getting the larger base at an extra $75.

    Had my first class...I'm hooked!!!

I think I would be embarassed to show what I created last night - just lots of coves and beads with flat spots and chunks missing where I made a mistake!!! Maybe next week

CUSTOMS WHEN YOU BUY FROM US?

21% approximately (the 3.5% import duty can vary depending on the type of goods). The £10-20 charge by Royal Mail usually only applies if they charge the duty.

    Had my first class...I'm hooked!!!

So I had my first woodturning class last night and after 2 1/2 short hours (felt more like 1 hour!!!) I think I may be hooked!!! The fun of taking a rough square piece of timber and creating a finished product (albeit a very dodgy looking one in my case) without using ten different tools and...

CUSTOMS WHEN YOU BUY FROM US?

Even gifts are liable to duty if they have a value over £36 I believe (changing in December though I think). Remember though, as always in my life...I could be wrong....

    Doblo

I have to replace the front tyres on my Fiat Brava after around 10000 miles as well. I always thought that was about average?

EZ Smart - Worth buying in the UK?

I did e-mail Dino a while back and he did say he would dispatch items won at auction with any other items - maybe I'll try calling and see if they will price match it anyway. As for having a play with it, I've tried all the other options and watched numerous videos and I'm pretty sure I've made...

EZ Smart - Worth buying in the UK?

But will they match the price on EBay? When they are listed - the SGS-100 normally goes for around $40-50 less than the price on their website.

EZ Smart - Worth buying in the UK?

I eventually decided to go EZ Smart as the Festool and other Plunge Saws just seemed too pricey and limited in comparison and I don't have the space for the table saw I want!!! Pricing up the EZ system - I'm starting to wonder if it is really worth buying in the UK as opposed to shipping from...
