    Mortiser

I have this and it is a good machine. However while making some doors recently it did struggle (hardly surprising) and I think the chisels that came with it were not great. For big cuts the morticer does stuggle and my biceps feel the pain. Mind you if I bought some better chisels this may be...

    Your Workshop Heaven

I have just discovered the joy of a well sharpened UK handsaw. I would welcome a mid price hand saw that does the job and can be sharpened easily. I have used japanes saws for about 4years and after sharpening a tenon properley (with your files) has been a bit of a revelation. Something in the...

What's it called and where do I get one??

I seem to recall that Argos do a version of this. I think I bought one for a house I manage. Depending on how attractive it has to be I think screwfix sell a hinge that locks up and has a push release. Perhaps something like this...

    Oak virus

I think this is a really interesting example of plant warfare. The Rhodedendrons are carrying a virus that kills of other trees that compete with it. They already affect the soil to prevent germination of other plants. All around us evolution is fighting to produce the top dog and we are skewing...

Planer thicknesser help Hammer vs. Sedgwick?

I have the a sedgwick planer thicknesser. It is second hand and therefore I think i have bought a bit of a pup. I am having a lot of problems with the cutter block letting the blades slip out (nasty). If changing the cutter block gib screws and wedge doesn't solve the problem I am going to very...

    Sliding Tables on TS's?

A sliding table is brilliant. It makes everything easier. If you are ripping big planks you can take some of the weight on the sliding table making everything easier. You can square up timbers quickly without messing with a planer or guide rails. I use mine for crosscutting in preference to my...

    Adirondack Kitchen cupboard doors

Brilliant use of some "waste" wood. It just goes to show that something attractive can be made from something that some people would just skip. Its unlikely that MDF kitchens would get to have a second run like that Owen

    Grabbits, which one?

If it is a euro lock i would second the mole grip tip. I work at a letting agents and we have countless lock problems and the mole grip wiggle works every time. I don't know how much we have seaved in locksmiths over the years.

    Twist

I had this problem, I dutifully sprayed the doors with water, clamped it and hey ho it was flat as a pancake....... Three weeks later its just as bent. Do it again. Everytime you look at it it will bother you. Thats what I am doing, I made mine with knife hinges so I couldn't even tweak the...

Not a posh tool cabinet but very satisfactory

I have built as tool cabinet of similar design. It works really well apart from the fact I use cheap piano hinges and they seemed to have sagged a little. I feel that i will have to progress to mark 2 at some point  link https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=26700&highlight=...

Whats wrong with a stacked dado?

I have the dado set for the hammer/felder range. It is more like a groover for the spindle moulder (which it can be used for and therefore made it worth a punt for me) and therefore has all the chip limiting aspects. However if you try to use it to make multiple cuts (ie a tenon) the knife...

    Another Workshop Tour

Good use of space and pretty tidy. Surely someone has to have a go at some one upmanship and have a pig hanging up or some pigeons. The pheasants add some rural chic to the whole space. If you had some oak cut on the table saw you could oak smoke the pheasants. Brilliant

Work Sharp The Wood Tool Sharpener WS3000 model

I know this may be unwarrented but I have the veritas version and it is great but... The disks are very very expensive and the fine grit clogs up very quickly. I have been looking at solutions and the cheapest way I have come up with is to look at fibre optic sanding sheets and cut them to size...

Setting up a new shop and rust....

My new workshop is under my house in a cellar type layout/garage. Unfortunately without a major spend damp will be an ongoing issue. So I have fitted a dehumifier (rotary type) and coated everything with metal guard. I used a wax before which was good but needed topping up all the time. After...
