    Clamping's making my head spin.

You can use the small ones as nipple clamps

    Clamping's making my head spin.

There speaks a man who has obviously never owned and lived with any. You can say what you like about them being overpriced, but you can't deny that they are an excellent clamp. Probably the best in my opinion - buy once, buy quality. Ed

    Making better dovetails

A very detailed tutorial Derek. I agree with the comments on not balancing the board on the edge of a plane. This is my solution - the hollow form allows you to get some clamps in there to hold the boards in place. Ed

    Tablesaw Crosscut Sled problems

Why not use your sliding table? I think the one on the Kity 419 is excellent - accurate and when its in the way just slide it off the end of the rail. Ed

Zero Clearance Insert for the Axminster TS200?

Same issue with the Kity 419. I made one but the material to the left of the blade is so thin and badly supported that I wasn't happy with it so never really used it. I think Rob has done one, sure he'll pop up in a bit. Ed

    Quangsheng No 6 Test

A useful review Brian. If I needed a plane this size (which I don't) I would consider these - at nearly a third of the price of a L-N with apparently similar performance they would have to be considered. That said I love my L-N 5 1/2 and I can't see this generating quite the same satisfaction of...

    Workbench height

I made my bench about 15 years ago, before I really knew what I was doing (some may say I still don't!). I cannot remember how I decided on height, but it feels right for me. Anyway, I just measured it and it works out exactly to the inside leg +75mm, so it must be a good formula. Ed

    Fast dovetails

Welcome Rob -nice to see the subject of the discussion join in with a robust stance. You have confirmed what some of us were saying, that this was a bit of fun and meant to entertain. I don't know what it is about dovetails that seem to bring out the most polarised and entrenched views in...

    Krenov style high angle smoother

Nice work Doug; I really like the shape, although the timber colour isn't really to my taste. I am seriously considering having a go at making my own blades now. Ed

    Pencil ?

I bought my clutch pencil when I went to University to study Architecture, 20 years ago. It costs about £7 now, so lets say it was a fiver back then. I work that out at 25p a year, plus a similar small cost for leads. In my view thats not expensive and its better to use than your cheap crap...

    Pencil ?

I favour a Staedtler clutch pencil as the thicker lead is more durable Ed

    Plane Hammer

Yes I saw that - it looks good. Theres a lot of work in it though, but I might have a go at one when I have a spare day. Ed Oh and this ones nice as well  https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/view ... 31&start=0

Quangsheng No.3 Bedrock Pattern Smoothing Plane Review

Excellent review Alf and quite thought provoking in respect of the benefits (or otherwise) of high end planes. Ed

    Fast dovetails

Well done Paul - you've saved me typing all that, as I was going to make the same points! to look at the video and believe that Rob is saying this is how one should always cut dovetails is akin to watching a Formula one race and stating you could not drive like that when you go to the shops...

    Buying PAR timber

Issues with snipe and tearout and also the cost of PAR were the original reasons I equipped myself to deal with rough sawn. It always feels that someone in a timber yard will not prepare the timber with the same degree of care as if you did it yourself. Ed

    Krenov style high angle smoother

I've always thought making blades seemed a ball-ache so never looked into the detail. Your sequence of photos makes it look quite straightforward though. Maybe I'll give it a go (in the summer though!) Ed

    Plane Adjustment Hammer

I bought this from Craft Supplies at Bradwell in Derbyshire. They have an amazing selection of woods. Mainly aimed at the turners, but in the case of handles and the like the sections they have ready prepared in the rack are suitable anyway. From what I understand Craft Supplies will get you...
