Very good Karl. I am being pressed for some shelves like that, but managing to resist so far... Ed

    Saw Bench

I think I can safely say you could stand an elephant on this bench - the construction is substantial. I think it may prove handy for sitting or standing on, its certainly strong enough. Ed

    Saw Bench

I've just completed this saw bench. Its entirely based on the age old English form, although ironically it was an article by an American that inspired me to make it. The article is here if you wish to follow it; http://popularwoodworking.com/article/t ... _sawbench/ I like to think that...

Free delivery from Tilgear for this week. EOM

Standing at the counter asking for things that the guy then goes off upstairs to fetch one item at a time, felt a bit like being in a Two Ronnies sketch! Ed

Free delivery from Tilgear for this week. EOM

I called in after a meeting at Welwyn Garden City one day. Tilgear is a very strange shop. I'd identified a few odds and ends I wanted in the catalogue before going, so was able to ask for those, but its not really a place for browsing. Ed

    Fettling an Axminster TS-200 Tablesaw

I did the mod a few others have done where you grind the side off the blade shroud where it is spot welded together, leaving the bit on the side where the motor and pulleys are. This allows the dust to drop into the hopper - its not perfect but a lot better than the as sold setup. Ed

    Fettling an Axminster TS-200 Tablesaw

Heres the hopper I made for my kity 419. Basically nicked Robs design, but used an Axminster plastic outlet for the bottom Ed

another thought , on the subject of cheap planes

Theres lots of evidence that people have taken old Stanleys and Records and got them performing brilliantly (David C included). I think its probably a lower investment of cash versus a higher investment of time. Theres also emerging evidence that some newer budget brands can perform well, such...

PTFE Spray OR What do you use to lube machine parts.

I use that for sharpening. Love the smell. Ed

PTFE Spray OR What do you use to lube machine parts.

I have a can of the Trend dry PTFE, but it always seems to me to rub straight off anything you spray it on. There might be a residual coating that I can't see, but I'm not convinced. Ed

    The Barron Blade

I'm not sure about the accuracy argument. I use Swann and Morton scalpel blades (although not the one you referred to) in my marking gauges. These 10A blades are .35 thick, half of which is 0.175 which I can't see as being significant. I know that a single bevel blade is best, but where an...

    Air Filtration Systems

I just got the same filter and hung it from my ceiling a couple of weeks ago. Not done much serious woodworking since then, but from what others say it makes a big difference. Ed

Fine toothed panel saw and Philly Panel Raisers

Derek they are beautiful saws and they sound like they will have performance to match. I'm in the market for some saws; I want a 16" tenon, a pair of handsaws rip and X-cut (probably 22") and maybe a dovetail. I like the look of Wenzloff's stuff but it seems a lot of effort and waiting to buy...

    Fast dovetails

I thought the ability to do a sideways cut with the edge of the chisel looks really useful. I was thinking of making one with an old chisel I have lying around. Ed
