    Glass-like fininsh.

Hi Dermot Hopefully this is better late than never. Personally speaking, I wouldn't put a very high gloss finish on this item as you prefer, it could be a little overpowering, but this is of course your choice. So, here's a suggestion for you, all my own personal opinions of course. I...

    Steam, the letting off thereof

I'm not going to say anything about cars other than they are too complicated now for their own good - or more specificaly ours! Why a fuel pump needs a chip is beyond me... As for the plumber situation, I believe there is a law about this sort of situation, that if an invoice isn't presented...

Downloading Directly To An External Hard Drive

Alternatively of course, when you click to download the torrent, a window pops up confirming that you want to do the download and at the top of it it asks you where you want to save it to, with a browse option at the side. This way, you can specify the settings for each torrent as you go.

Downloading Directly To An External Hard Drive

With the Bitlord program on your screen, press Ctrl+P at the same time. A new window will pop up, in the left hand side of it click on 'Task' The window on the right will change and you should then click 'Default Download Path:' which will also show where your files normally go to(it's not...

    earring stand to make

I can only offer one bit of advice when making an earring stand, and I only know this because a very well known turner and good friend gave us one for our display... it was ideal for our purposes but one he couldn't sell because he'd made a mistake when drilling the holes for the earrings to go...

    Pepper mill finish

Hi I'd suggest a coat of Sanding Sealer (any except Shellac) followed by a coat or two of Acrylic Satin Lacquer. This will be a non-glossy but very hardwearing finish. Let me know if you need any other info on these products.

see http://support.skype.com/index.php?_a=knowledgebase&_j=questiondetails&_i=102 for details... although I'd consider booting out the virus protection, it seems to be being a bit over zealous!

    apply wax finish on carving

Hi Andy Was it Briwax Original being used? If so, it's unlikely it's not dry as this dries very quickly indeed. As time goes by it'll get harder to remove any excess wax as it sets more. Is it possible the finishing oil wasn't completely dry, bearing in mind that slightly more than desired...

Complete cast iron tooled workshop for sale

Yeah, I can sort of see that, thanks. I can only assume that there are a lot of people out there who have bid and paid way over the odds for an item... in fact I'm sure it's true. A little bit of auction fever! I have noticed that people will keep bidding on an item, pushing the price up, even...

Complete cast iron tooled workshop for sale

I think this discussion has gone quite a bit off-topic and I'm afraid I'm not going to help it... There are a couple of comments from people about only bidding at the last minute, but I don't get it, sorry. When you place a bid on ebay it only goes up in the increments they set; if you bid £20...

    Yandles - 13th-14th April

Hi All Contrary to any comments I may have made before, I won't be at this show this time round, although we'll have a presence there of course as Mark will be attending. I'm hoping to get down there in September and look forward to seeing you all then!

    goblet advice please

Hi All Our Food Safe Finish isn't really designed for holding liquids; it will do so to a limited degree but we offer no guarantee about it. We've had requests from people wanted to use it to contain red wine and hot drinks before now, you can imagine the problems if the goblet leaked! We...

What to do with cold callers

The most annoying thing about the anonymous call bar is that when you call it it just tells you it's there and you can't be put through ... instead of saying that if you redial, prefixing your number with 1470 it will put you through. This only works of course if you have asked your phone...

What to do with cold callers

Oh, and for the record, registering with the Telephone Preference Society doesn't really seem to make a huge amount of difference - or maybe it does and I only get the few calls that slip through rather than the loads I would otherwise. (This from the company with a link to tps on their...

What to do with cold callers

Hmmm... but I'm not in the habit of phoning total strangers during the evening or weekend (always it seems at the most inconvenient time!), pestering them to try and get them to buy something they probably don't want in the first place (windows, conservatories, mobile phones etc), sometimes I'm...

    When to use Sanding Sealer?

Certain woods, pine being a prime example, don't always take a stain consistently over their area. This is because some parts are more absorbent than others. A favourite trick to get around this is to use a thinned-down sanding sealer (usually thinned 50-50 with the appropriate thinner) first...
