My sister some 4 weeks ago persuaded me to install skype for video live calls etc.

It is constantly coming up on my virus protector with problem questions and I thought I would uninstall it for the time being.

There is no unInstall available on the remove software panel at the control panel. (it refuses to uninstall)

did a google asking about skype uninstall and see there are many different listings.

Anyone know a good way using a PC with xp/2?

I've used skype through various incarnations on different pc's running different antivirus software and never had this problem. On this laptop running version 3.0.0.217 of skype, there is a skype icon in the add or remove programs window on the control panel. If you click on it you have the option to remove and furthermore if you click it, you are informed that you don't have to uninstall to upgrade and do you want to save your call history. As Terry said , I think the anti virus software is being overzealous.

Steve

I've never had a prblem with Skype and AV either DW. What AV prog are you running?

My pc supplier pushed bullguard 7 (AV) down my throat
It is so officious it scares me to death. :?
But it does have a genuine one hour live support reply by email, which I have never had before in 8 years of computing.

There are various uninstallers quoted at google and I wondered if anyone had used one that they could recommend?

Just did a very quick google on Bulldog and the website says it's an AV and firewall package in one. I wonder whether this (and some of the other probs you've encountered with it) may be due to the firewall part rather than the AV part.

Without a bit more info it's hard to know, but it may be that you need to 'open up' the firewall in order to get Skype to work.

Sorry DW, no experience of Bullguard. Best o' luck anyway. It would be nice to get it sorted rather than having to uninstall Skype. I find Skype great.

Cheers

Roger, Ive got the virgin broadband that comes with free virus protection, but a little dependant on my local PC supplier at the moment (guarantees & service) but if things dont settle down I shall ditch buulguard.

Its too efficient!!!!!!!!!!!

DW

Are you telling Bulldog to allow Skype to access the web etc? If you don't give it permission then it will keep flagging Skype as a possible dialler or other unwanted pest. Most av progs don't learn which programs you use and are 'good' unless you tell them.

Cheers

Hi Devonwoody

I am with Virgin too but I would not use they AV as it is no good.

I have tried it and a friend across the road from me.
It seems to have as many holes as Swiss cheese.

I use ZoneAlarm for my firewall and AVG for my anti-virus and I am very happy with both of t...name the ones I use if you dont have any :) .
