    Mitre Saw Station

I designed mine so the extended fences move 15mm back rather than the Kapex moving.

    Setting up a workshop

Mike I do not disagree with anything you say after the first sentence as I have made many boxes without my bandsaw getting anywhere near them. In the days when I did not have a bandsaw I used to rip stock with a thing called a handsaw. I entirely agree that if you have a bandsaw there are lots...

    Setting up a workshop

I tend to agree with Marcos, you do not need those machines for those projects. For instance how would a band saw help you make a jewellery box or shelves? Save the money and buy more wood. Maybe a shop vac for the power tools, if you do not have one.

    Major Extension To Furniture Copyright

Andy, that is correct, save you missed the Led Zeplin effect that the Judge could decide it sounds (looks) nothing like the original and then there is the fact that if you loose you might have to pay for the other side's expensive lawyers.

David C - the Text from the Second Cap Iron Paper

In relation to the translation, there can be problems with translations of technical work unless the translator is technically proficient in the subject matter (woodwork). For example their might be three words in English, one in general use, one technical for another use and the right word. A...

    Workshop/Dust Collection help

It is well worth considering putting the extractor outside in its own little lean to then you do not need the filter and the reduction in suck that goes with the finer filter. I put mine outside last year and the improvement in air quality is amazing. The downside is 18 air changes an hour. As...

    Workshop/Dust Collection help

Copes, you can get away with anything. In fact why have any dust extraction. There are two theories (1) it saves you sweeping up or (2) it is better for your health. If you realise it is option 2 and realise that it is the fine dust that can kill you then you look at dust extraction a...

    STARTING A GARAGE WORKSHOP

You need to make a scale drawing of your workshop marking doors and windows. If you do it on a cad system you then need to draw the foot print of your machines in the shop and move them around to ensure working space and work flow. As for dust extraction there are lots of options but most dust...

    Domino extraction

As per Custard I keep some of the commonly used sizes of dominos that I have relieved so that they fit easily. They do not need much. There is a little lip on the edge of each which I removed with a stanley knife and then chamfered the ends. I keep thinking I should drill a hole in the face...

Why is planing all around so expensive?

You are not comparing like for like. If you buy 25 x 300 sawn when you have planed it down it will be circa 19-20mm x 290mm. So to compare the price at SL Hardwood sawn was £45 and that piece planed was £66 so you only save £20. Now given I know how long it would take me to hand plane 3m of...

Newby and need help on workshop plans & tools

You might actually find in your position it is well worth buying the Festool MFT system, table, tracks, clamps etc etc. It will allow you to securely clamp things down and then work on them. As everything works together there will be efficiency and time savings that you might think are not...

Newby and need help on workshop plans & tools

Brian welcome. I am sure you will be fine, most of us have no excuse for not making ourselves understood! It would help us advise if you told us what sort of things you want to make. We can then suggest the best combination of tools to achieve your aims.

    Tersa knives

Another advantage with the Tersa is that when planing difficult grain you can quickly change the blade to a new edge when you have 1 or 2mm to go and approach the finished size in steps of 0.25mm or less. With care a very good finish can be achieved with minimal tear out. Whilst you can do...

The qestion of the saw nib

When I was an apprentice it was explained to me thus: In the days when rip saws were used, you needed nice big teeth once you got into the rhythm. The problem was starting a cut with such a rip saw was difficult (if, as it does the saw jumps you do a lot of damage to your thumb), so to make...

    Tersa knives

One of the advantages of the Tersa system is you can and should have a variety of blades and swap them around as needed and make sure you always have new set or spare edge for finishing. Accordingly you can decide for yourself if the M42 make a difference or whether to stick with HSS. I have...

Buying the ST-635 DUAL DRUM SANDER or Jet 22-44 OSC

Interesting but it is over twice the price of the Jet http://www.axminster.co.uk/jet-16-32-pl ... der-110257. So you could buy two Jets and have coarse on one and fine on the other and still have a large amount of "change". How long does it take to change the grit? I can never decide if the...

    Another 'which extractor' question!!!

It really depends how much you use the P/T it will not take many minutes to fill 35 litre from a P/T. If it is occasional use that might be OK.
