    Festool Drill

Hi all, a belated Happy New Year. I'm currently in the process of installing a kitchen for a friend and after 5 screws going in to cupboard units my Makita has given up the ghost and died. A sad day but the friend has said that they would replace it and I was thinking maybe it was time to get a...

    Day Bed Model

A Day bed that is destined for the Greek Island of Tino. The model is 1:10 scale and I'm afraid made using MDF once again, once I get my thicknesser I will start making my models in the actual full scale timber. I used Styrofoam for the construction of the pillows and cushions and the silk was...

    London area Timber merchants?.

Many thanks to all for the reply. The girlfriend has a hundred and one projects for her new place and Ikea just worries me. How do they sell this at £10.99?.

Cheers Matt. Getting closer. That's exactly what I'm looking for.

    London area Timber merchants?.

It seems that I spend a lot of my time driving back and forth to Devon where I know the guys in Devon Hardwoods and also I use some companies to produce my large scale designs. It has occurred to me that rather than spending a whole day on the M4-M5 getting a little miffed about the middle...

Axminster - Oh NO!! Why did I click on STORE LOCATOR

Ha ha, I found myself in the same boat about 3 weeks ago. I'll just pop in and see what they have, no harm in that. The receipt was the length of my arm and I had to put the dog in the front seat. I asked what the manager could do for me as far as a discount was concerned and on a £1600...

My new Knife and the Law

No I wasn't expecting to find a 31 year old man hanging from a tree. But if he hadn't been as dead as the beers he had just sunk then maybe just maybe ~I could have cut him down and maybe somehow changed things. The cable he used was 110v cable so the cutting implement would have had to have...

My new Knife and the Law

So I could have cut the bloke down from the tree if he was still taking his last gasp's of breath.

My new Knife and the Law

I have recently purchased the new replacement Swiss Army Knife for the troops. I'm a bit of a fan of the knives and obviously in my line of work find having one on me at all times to be very valuable. I have a German Short-haired Pointer dog that gets to run free in forests and I always carry...

    Poisonous Yew

You do know that your meant to apologies to Yew if you cut it or work it. Seriously it's an old tale but I've heard some horror stories of Tree Surgeons taking a chain saw to them and not saying sorry and then having the chain saw bite or fall out the tree. Thank the tree when your gobbling his...

    Brother's Birthday present

Just checked the pictures and can see faults, the model isn't finished yet so go easy.

    Brother's Birthday present

The model design for the Pub in Hampstead. 1:5 scale to give the client something to look at. I'm going to mount it all on the MDF board so can carry it in the car and just pop it on the table and start my pitch.

Shoulder plane oh what to buy ?????????????????

Veritas Large Shoulder Plane. That's the one I settled on. Liked the adjustable handle and feel of it. Went for the Large as I can use it on edge and use it with a shooting board to make models. Depends on what your uses are really.

    Magnolia as an outdoor bench?.

Had the meeting this morning and things have changed some what. After my concerns about Magnolia in an exterior use I have decided to go with a simpler design that will keep the piece solid with some slight curving here and there but no hole through the middle. Shame. Thanks to all for...

    Removing rust

I'm in the same boat, the father in law has left me a large wooden travel chest full of tools. I'm yet to open it and reveal its secrets but i was thinking along the lines of a rubberised abrasive block & Camellia Oil.

    Unabashed gloat.... (and an apology).

Uninformed being me. I'll have a look.

    Brother's Birthday present

I can see what your saying. But I'm the kind of guy who puts up sockets in my workshop and all the screws have to face North-South. Of course I cut corners but when I'm that involved in a piece I don't cut corners. Be it my German family or just my need for perfection then it must be there...
