Hi John, I was just thinking of putting a quick post up on this - I'll be there (on the Jet stand of course/with a little bit of hopping onto Rojek too) - If anyone is considering purchasing or wants to look at larger machinery (1" morticers up to CNC type thingys) then this is the show to see. Of all the shows we do each year as Jet, Woodmex is by far the biggest in terms of sq footage of machinery on display from all exhibitors - ok, some of it costs about £5 squillion and you put a tree in one end and a fitted kitchen pops out of the other, but ourselves, Rojek, Lamello, NMA/Scheppach/Ixes/Mafell, Trend, Felder, Altendorf, Robland, Sedgewick, Excalibur, SCM and many more. are all there. It was originally a pure trade/re-sale show although now it's wide open to anyone who wants to come in - register at the booths and entry is free - parking is about 6 squid though - that's the NEC for you! - website is

I wish I had known about this a couple of months ago, I would love to go and salivate for hours around all that gear. But now it's just to much of a short notice for me to organize myself and everything around me to get there. b****r, b****r, b****r, b****r, b****r, b****r.
Still it's not to long until The North of England Woodworking Show, but unfortunately I don't think Woodford Woodworking will be there and I really want to see their xcalibur range.

Nick, thanks for putting more info about Woodmex. I'm a little suprised that there's not much interest shown on this site for it, especially for the machine lovers etc, or anyone looking to purchase. Seeing all the machines in the flesh so to speak is the best way to buy.

Most of the light trade and hobby firms will be displaying virtually all of their range. (unlike other smaller shows where you only see a selection).

Sorry Martin for the omission , didn't see you during set up for the show - took us 3 days of blood/sweat/tears/pallet trucks and NEC doughnuts to get our stand sorted, so didn't have too much time to meander.

Thank you for the 'boy' tag - I'll take it as a compliment that I have retained my youthful looks during all these years of swallowing sawdust and making holes (and butchering) bits of timber (I had an easy paper round too) :lol:

Ref. earlier comments too - apologies for all who cannot make it to Woodmex due to only just being aware of it, We should have flagged it up earlier - Charlie, any mileage in getting a show calender set up on the site? Local/National/Specialist etc??? Then people just mail in as and when there's something happening to let others know and it's on the calender?

Nick I instantly regretted the boy tag (laid awake thinging about it) and I apologise unreservedly. It was meant to be funny and was plainly wrong. Sometimes I write stuff and it is SENT too hastily. I did think about Jetman but it just wasn't funny etc etc. Sorry.

As this show has a technical element Keith has decided to keep me away.

There is a Event list on the main page but as I've be been lazy I haven't updated it in ages - I must get some updates done soon

Martin no worries, I took no offence at all when I read the Jetboy tag, I think it has a sort of 'batman style' fighting against poor quality machinery type of connotation - I thought it was funny.

Charley, I'll chase your jointer phone call tomorrow :? ,ref. suggesting a show calender - I'm a fine one to talk - we have some shows on our Jet website now, but need to put more on - suggesting things is easy - doing is the tricky bit at times

Thanks Nick, that'll be great as at the moment it's just a good looking piece of cast iron sitting in the workshop.

It's the 8" version but it's producing bows width ways (left to right) and the blades appear to be straight :? although it'll probably turn out to be operators error

Must be the blades Charley? Even with operator error can't see how it could happen. Maybe take the 3 blades out, check that size is identical and reset using a dial gauge. Presume you've checked that the infeed and outfeed tables are coplanar? (With each other and the cutter head?) then adjust the outfeed table? Let us know how you get on. Maybe Philly and Aragorn can add a few suggestions? And, of course, Nick.

Do you grind your own blades? Or have you had them sharpened by an external company recently? If so, have you checked they are not cupped, or bent?

I'd lend you my spangly new straightedge (6 foot, 10 kilos and accurate to 9microns over the entire length). Free from work - they were throwing it out. It's great, but I have trouble lifting it :shock: but you are a bit far away now!

Bloody things so unwieldy - I think it's taller than 6 foot, maybe 7 - and as everyone knows in my workshop - with less space than needed to swing a kitten, bloody thing clunks on everything everytime I move it. Good job I have protectors on the flourescent lights.

The blades are the ones that came with the (new) machine. My first thoughts were the blades and when I rang up that's what Jet thought too, and sent me a new set.

The machine is supplied with a metal block which is used when setting the blades up (instead of using a straight piece of timber). Each end of the blades are set the correct height from the outfeed table but the middle of the blade isn't, it's lower.

If you place the metal setup block at one end of the blade and rotate cutters by hand it moves/catches the correct distance and the same happens when you move the block to the other end but in the middle it doesn't catch at all :?

I've been meaning to check the outfeed table but I keep forgetting.

It's only a small cup, the gap at the ends of the workpiece are about 1/2 - 1mm...

I did take the original blades to a local saw sharpening centre - they were very helpful but agreed that the blades seemd to be ok!
