Is there a nice woodworking project book that is aimed at hand tools, and that talks you through a number projects to progress your skills, starting off very simple, but working up to things like chest of drawers and other household furniture items etc?

Have a look at Chris Tribe's book 'Complete Woodworking'. Covers just about everything including techniques, handtools, powertools and a some really good stuff on veneering - Rob

I started out with paul sellers book working wood 1 & 2, it is in some ways very basic but that's why it's good, there's some useful info on tools in there as well and what you do and don't need, I like the way it is laid out and it makes sense, it starts off with basic shaping and eventually moves onto making tables (the proper way) which you could obviously scale up or down.

Just a left field thought. What if keen ukworkshop members did a write up of there favourite project. Made it into a book. Bish bash. Published.dah dah...millionaires...lah lah retire.
Seriously has this ever been done. I'm a member of a couple of special interest forums( no not that sort) and the depth of info is amazing. It just needs collecting and organising.

Cheers guys, I think I will order that book AndyT!

Don't suppose you a link to a contents listing? I couldn't find anything about it

Here you go. The contents:

and a couple of random pages showing the style of the drawings. I think they are effective at getting across the points made in the text in a way that photos aren't.

Thanks for that AndyT. Looks like at least good bedside reading at a magazine price all the way from the states. I’ve sent for one too

Graham Blackburn also published rather a nice book on traditional woodworking tools, which is quite chatty and informative on things like sash fillisters and the different types of chisel. Worth getting if you spot a copy going cheap.

I like this idea but in my limited experience, this kind of thing needs lots of hard work to bring it together, standardise and find a publisher. But I wonder if the Projects page on UKW (https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/projects) could be used for this purpose? I think it would need editorial control if it were to be user-friendly, but it could be a really useful section of the site.
