Soulfly .... Dude, you're comments there are a bit 'off' - you don't have much credibility after the last round of critical postings, and when asked by several to effectively 'put up or shut up', by displaying some of your own work... absolutely nothing was forthcoming.

You've no credibility Son.

Poor show, fella.

Much as I hate to feed the trolls, it's seeing work like this that makes me ever more curious about turning and even more determined to buy a lathe and get turning.

I like the design.

Now why is no one selling one near me!

Best Regards

Soulfly, I dont tkink I have ever replyed to any of your posts or your remarks which may have seemed critque to you. BUT why?? why pass remarks like that about something that a couple of blokes got togeather and made for a friend for the start to a new life.
I live in Ireland which is probley a long way from you I hope. but if you are in need of a little tender care or loving or anything to help you with your problem, because you have one, Come over to me for a woodturning break all free of charge. You can help me pull some Bog oak out of the old Bog up the road , and all your troubles will just fade away.
I can help you and you will find that you wont be writing those hurtful posts you are doingnow . The Bog is a very relaxing place. I have to go now someone is going to look at my septic tank. REgards Boysie

a good rule for posting critiques is "if you cant say anything nice , dont say anything"

( I can't think of anything even vaguely nice to say about our resident troll so i aint going there ;) )

Don't listen to this rubbish blister - its a nice bit of turning and a very nce gesture to make for wizer - I'm sure both he and mrs wizer will be made up with it.

I'm working on a similar one in yew for my swimbo (we wed at the end of march), i'll post a pic when i get a chance.

matt - check out G&M tools , they arent near you but they will deliver ( i think) - big range of second hand latheage. Also if you only want to spend a couple of hundred you could do worse than the perform range from axminster - who have an outlet in kent which isnt that far from you.

Axminster seem to have discontinued the Perform range of lathes. They have a lowere range of lathes under their own name but a bit more expensive. Don't know what they are like either.

Is there something in the air or water these days!!! Although I've only joined as a member of this site a while back, I've been reading the posts as a guest for a long time.
It seems in the past while that a small group of members are't what you would call friendly with their posts!!

How big a person are you to actually criticise someones work!! The ring holder is a really nice gift! Its going to tell a tale for years to come when someone sees it in his house etc, its not just something that was mass produced in China!! Ok so now I'm ranting but I've read this post after reading a different post about someone using pics of another members work to put on their website as their own work!!

As I said, must be something in the water!! Or maybe its just all the snow over there!! :D

Geno, there are always people who seem to get a buzz out of being bitchy in one way or another. By and large you will find that 99% of the criticism on this forum is positive. Any truly negative posts are usually slated by other members. We all recognise that we have different views, opinions and tastes and accept those differences and don't have a problem with them being expressed.
I have been here for two years and can only remember two members who have been offensive, at least in the spinny section. Don't let the few put you off what is, in my opinion a really good forum with helpful, constructively critical members with a mine of experience they are willing to share.

Pete

Lads, - my apologies if i'd added a bit of fuel to the fire there...
got a bit incensced at a brilliant gesture ( and a very nice piece into the bargain ), being treated in such an insensitive and offensive manner.
I've had dealings with both Blister and Wizer over the forum's PM's, and they are both two wonderful fella's... and that 'nonsense' just pushed my button. Sorry.

Geno, what Pete says there is totally spot-on ... we're largely 'anonymous' from each other in so many ways.. but in others, not so.
The guys ( and ladies .. not to forget Mrs Sliver ! ) here are extremely helpful, encouraging and indeed inspirational.
People you haven't met will go out of their way to help you.... its excellent.
You stick with it.. and enjoy everything there is to learn, see, and contribute back to. Its great.
:D :) :)

Lads thanks for the replies on this, but just to let u know I'm made of strong enough stuff!! :D It'd take a little more than yer mans rants to put me off, to be honest I was typically ignoring what was said cos whats the point in trying to reason with some of those ones!

Anyway I'm here to stay and will do my best not to be over critical :D Wouldn't want getting on the wrong side of all of you!!!

Whenever I eventually get something to post I'll post it, most of my jobs are not woodworking related but hopefully soon that'll be changing.

Take her handy!!! :)

Got around to putting in some foam and black velvet in today. Need to fit it in a bit better, but I think it's come out really nice.

Dsc_0267.jpg

looking good - I wonder if it might be wise to have the foam a little lower so that the top of the ring is paralel to the top lip of the box ( so that if your best man is a butter fingers you dont wind up with your rings roling accross the church floor ) :D

They are a nice tight fit in there, I think it's more a case of pulling the foam out with the rings. Might use double stick tape as I'd like to re-use the box after for something.

Thats brilliant Wizer,

I so wish i had thought of something like that for my wedding, Looks very professional,

Would you have a perfect shaped dome of foam or poystyrene though to even the surface?, if polystyrene, you could glue the velvet to it.

That said - I'd buy it, and im sure others would too !
