DECKING!!!!!!
It's the crappiest thing for maintenance that I can think of..........well the wife just hits the No 1 spot but..
You can't sweep it clean cos of the bloody grooves and then you have to sweep with the groves as you cant brush against them.
It goes green mouldy ontop of the 5 year paint mould inhibitor that is supposed to stop it...
and it's terrible to maintain in general!!!!!!

( she want's me to paint it while other good husbands snore in the chair.

In your shoes I'd be reaching for the jet wash. Don't treat it - let it rot and replace it with something else

Or someone slips on it in the wet and then sues you - as is happening to someone I know at the moment. :roll: Wood is only for walking on indoors IMO....

There are products available that allow you to fill these grooves with strips of a non-slip material, which I think is rubber... Trouble is, they seem to come in whites and blues and, because of this, they stand out like a sore thumb! :?

can you turn the planks over - we have flat planks and they're one heck of a lot easier to clean and no where near as slippery (along the plank) as grooved ones and pretty much the same across the plank.

Give it a few years Brian and I reckon there is a fair chance you will have changed your mind somewhat.

That'll teach yah for installing the cheap rubbish. My garden is full of the stuff (not installed by me). The last house I installed proper (smooth) hardwood decking that was beautiful! I bloody miss it!

You could power wash it,mine comes clean with my power washer,blast the green right away,or if you do not like that Idea how about indoor outdoor carpeting,placed on top,they have some herre that feels like grass to walk on and its rubber backed so no rot....

What about that adhesive backed non slip stuff they put on stairs and boat decks? it usually comes in a nice understated black or charcoal grey.

You might need to sand the whole thing with a floor sander first but then you'd have a jetwashable non slip covering.

By the time that's knackered you can flatten the whole thing and build a proper patio!

I'm ripping up the lawn and slabs at the moment - to be gravelled. Just a line of slabs so I can get to the workshop quietly. Oh goodbye lawnmowing, goodbye slugs

I suspect I won't be so happy while moving 4 bulk-bags of gravel from the front to the back :shock:

i love the stuff :lol: every year i get some work cleaning and re oiling some- spec goes: apply fungicdal wash leave for 24 hours, jet wash/scrub leave for 24hours apply two coats of liberons finest decking oil, jod done (till next year :roll: )

Definitely lay it flat side up. Hardwood is well worth the extra. A stiff broom and a hose after rain get rid of the algae for quite a while so why bother with chemicals. Had it for some years and still like it.

The only thing that makes me question whether I would have it again is that it provides the perfect home for rats and mice. Surprised no one has mentioned this.

High pressure power washing is the only thing that's worked for me. It also roughens the surface of the deck. I tried the various anti fungal treatments, they just don't do the job.

I think the purpose of the grooves is to add some visual interest and a little extra grip underfoot when damp. However these grooves soon turn into a home for algae and gunge (technical term!) and totally defeat their original purpose.
