Which end grain sealer to use

Could anyone recommend which end grain sealer to use when sawing logs into boards, please? Would any generic one such as the ones for decking boards do? Thanks

Is this just to seal while they are laid up in stick?

Old paint oddments (gloss, mat, undercoat), a couple of coats of emulsion, PVA Glue, melted wax, just about anything that forms a skin to reduce rapid moisture loss.

Melted wax is tops, there's nowt better.

Gloss enamel and varnish (must be oil-based in both cases) are next down the list. You want to put 'em on thick so this is a great use of older stuff that has thickened on the shelf. Also doesn't matter if they're full of lumps from bits of the skin that formed in the tin LOL

Pretty much anything you've got lying around. Far more important than what you slap on the ends is how you manage your boards during drying.
