Sorry Mike, but unfortunately it seems this isn't suitable for the ADE1200 model - there's no mention of it, anyway.

As for the asbestos roof, I have similar problems. Apparently though, most of the leakage occurs where the fixings are on the outside; you should be able to add some kind of watertight/weatherproof sealant around them. It may help.

I don't know about patching up holes (although I have a 2" hole, fortunately out of harm's way) I learned on the Projects forum a month-or-two-ago that you can spray the underside with an expanding foam product; available in bulk for... a few hundred pounds... It should also insulate it too.

I'd love to rip the whole thing off and start again - I mean, there's only one truss at the centre between the front and back block walls along the length of the garage... There's not much I can do with it and, for what you could have to pay to have it specially removed (around £500), I'm quite tempted to spray it for now. :)

Yeah sorry Olly I noticed that too late and so removed the post  . You can see what I mean though, I wish you could get them for the Scheppach

Cheers

Mike

No worries Mike, I thought I was going mad for a minute!

Martin, here's the link for foam-spraying an asbestos roof, if you might be interested.

Thanks Olly, we had some high winds last night and it bblew off one of the ridge tiles which fell on the garage roof and punctured the asbestos, should be okay with a bit of silicone sealant.

Olly as I said above I know nothing about asbestos roofing, but I noticed in your link that you mentioned a cement corrugated roof. I think you will find that although these look the same as asbestos they are completely different and not dangerous. In other words you can take them down yourself and do not have to have a special company to remove it.

The reason I say this is we put a garage up for our next door neighbor about 10 years ago in England and this came with a cement roof.

It maybe something completely different but I wonder if it is worth checking to see if you both actually have asbestos, who knows you maybe lucky

Ok I'll get my coat

Cheers

Mike

Martin,

Your roof is almost certainly asbestos cement sheeting which is not the nasty stuff. The local tip may take it or consult the council but other than taking sensible precautions like not smashing it up too much and minimise cutting dust etc. It is safe to take down yourself.
Trade people may try and put the wind up you and charge lots but they are just capitalising on fear/ignorance.

If you wanted to stick with a corrugated sheet roof, there are a number of products that are a metal/insulation/metal sandwich

The really nasty stuff is asbestos fibre which was used as insulation round pipes and in commercial buildings. This is the so called blue asbestos.

The stuff used for flat and corrugated sheets is relatively benign.

Here is the 'elfin safety official bumpf on the subject for the trade doing small jobs as well as Trade Union use.

Bob,

What you are saying is not quite true.
however the HSE leaflet hits the spot

Martin,

Should you strip the roof let me know & I'll bring you some disposable boiler suits & masks etc

You then need to get rid of the stuff.
Look under Leicestershire county council
You can take it to certain tips but you need to make an "appiontment", you can't just turn up.
I did all this last year - its fairly painless so long as you follow the councils instructions

What I was trying to ask is how do you know or tell the difference between the NORMAl ordinary cement corrugated roof, which is NOT dangerous and allowed to be used, and the less nasty illegal asbestos?

Cheers

Hi Jim, I reckon i'll leave it be, it could be a good excuse to build a new worshop, well I don't really need an excuse but I will need to have a loan so I will need permission for that from her indoors
