Good People,
Where do I buy a good quality 35mm forstner bit for kitchen cabinet hinges into oak doors?
(and what sort of price should I be paying to ensure it'll do the job?)
Many thanks in advance.
Greg

Just make sure you use a template with the same size hole as the hinge cutter can skip about on real woods but they are great with MDF

Year ago I bought a cheap Axminster set at one of the Axminster shows - 5 forstner bits including a 35mm. I have used this on loads of doors includung oak and they are still going strong. Whether the current offerings of 5 piece sets from Axminster or Screwfix etc are as good I don't know but all I can say is that my set have given me their value time and time again.

Thanks MrF - handy to know.
Could I ask - Do you sharpen them, and if so, is it by stroking a diamond file up the straight part of the cutter, or some other method?
TIA
Greg

I wouldn't go stroking any tools to be honest....unless it was behind closed doors!

I use one that was in a saw tooth set from Rutlands and have used it for a number of years now in Oak and MDF sand it is still going strong.

No, I've just used them. I misplaced the 15mm one a while ago and bought an individual (more expensive) replacement from Axminster which which seems as good as the original set. Then as always happens I found the original.

FWIW, The screwfix one was a pile of pants - did 4 doors and it's all over. Have ordered Axi one, which they assure me is the canine's wotsits.
Cheers
Greg

You should have used wealden tools a couple of people mentioned them. I have an 8mm shank one that I can use in my router or drill. I've done loads if holes in mdf and mfc and it's still sharp
