I feel a bit of a fraud here guys as I probably haven't made comments before......................but here goes.
I make shawl pins and buttons from many species and I have a little website going.
I have made 1 (only 1 ) pin from Birds Eye Maple and a possible customer in USA wants it................yup you've guessed.......it's been sold for ages.
So my cry is...........does anyone have any BEM or can anyone suggest where I should try?
Ideally I need a piece minimum 50 x 75 x 150mm.

Sorry to be of no help at all, but what is birds eye maple and what does it look like, you never know I may have some stashed away without realising it.

Regards,

Rich.

You can try places like Yandles, John Boddys or Exotic Hardwoods for a starter, even ebay. More commonly found as veneer than solid timber.

Rich get your ass on Wikipedia and get some wood research in :)

I was down at Yandles a few weeks ago and they had a fair bit of 1" Birdy's Eye Maple in stock. It's priced at £65/cubic foot (1" thick). Wrong end of the country for roles but, they do deliver.

is Bird's Eye the same as what the Americans call Tiger Maple?

I love that stuff, I feel a trip to exotic hardwoods coming up.

Well you xcould be in luck here, Yandles has a nice stock of Birdseye Maple in stock. I'm off down there next week to pick up a few cubes for my tool cabinet project. The price is £65.00 plus vat a cuft.
