All we ever seem to get at our local CBs is SH clothes!

Roy.

I know I have mentioned it before Roy but what time do you get there?

There are basically two fairs in one at all the ones around here at least...

When it opens and people are unpacking is when you get the gems...15 minutes to an hour later...it turns into a tat market...all the best things are gone to dealers and early birds...which I try to be.

Getting there a couple of hours after it opens which at this time of the year is say 7am to 8am...you will get clothes, bread makers and DVDs.

Occasionally...and very occasionally only...you will find things that dealers have missed...but this is rare and generally things hidden at the bottom of boxes of old rubbish tools.

Mornings, it's all over bar the shouting by mid afternoon.
I have managed to purchase some nice quality chisels and cast steel plane irons but that's about it.

Most near me start at daybreak...so in the summer it can be as early as 4:30am.....but now they tend to be about 6am....

Everyone was packing up by 11am today...we always stay on a bit longer to avoid the exit chaos....and relax in packing up.

Another tip is once you have gone around once...go back in the opposite direction. You will find you will see things from another angle that you missed the first time.

If Alf's not around, may I offer a suggestion?

I think the Goat's Head mark belongs to Sheffield tool makers CT Skelton
I feel so unnecessary.  Although I had more than enough "What d'you reckon this is then, Alf?" queries at the car boot myself this morning to keep me amused.

I know how you feel Roy. Our (very) local car boot is pure jumble sale - baby clothes, records, videos ... awful tat. And I don't think it would be any better any earlier.
So we troll about 20 miles to the other side of Stratford most weekends to the one that we have found to be a goldmine. It's well worth the trip.
I think it's a case of looking around for a better fair - the more rural, frequented by the steam fair type.

Nothing for us this morning though - rain rain rain.

So come on ALF....whatcha get?!

I think that is the key thing Richard....search around for the goldmine...I think I found the Mother Lode at mine.

Annie and I went to one further afield ( ) one weekend and it was pure rubbish...so yes...definitely shop around. It'll all be over in a few weeks anyway...

John...it is all totally clear now...and I do see V blocks occasionally...at least now I know what I need to look out for and can measure the width required for each of the stirrup clamps.

Jim

Well Bob actually but not to worry

It must have been the excitement at all your winnings causing the confusion.

Bob (or is it John?)

That's fantastic! Both to know their common use and that you have pristine ones. Can you do me a favour. The back screw is Philips and the blade screw is crosshead...which is correct?

The screw near the white handle is a crosshead/philips (as shown in your picture). The main blade screw is a large flat head.

Sorry Bob! I know it's Bob...I just repeated John as I was typing to him as well... (homer)

It was the excitement mate!! I ain't turning into Kent's version of Trigger!

And another funny thing from this week's bootfair.....if one can cast ones mind back a few weeks when we were looking at the obelisk mark...

Some considered "Monument Tools" was the answer....but this was rejected....

Well have a guess what mark is on the little boxwood dolly this week...yup....

How weird is that! But it does beg the question for ALF this week...in case you feel neglected...what is the original mark!? ALF? ALF?!

HA! Typical of Stanley! I shouldn't have questioned it really should I?!!!

Thanks for the clarification...I will keep it just as it is then.....I wonder why they did that...strange!
